Mount Sinai Health System Mammography Technician (Diagnostic Specialist MMT) - Radiology FPA - Mount Sinai West - Full Time - Monday-Friday, 10:00am-6:00pm in New York, New York

Job Description

Under general supervision of licensed physicians, performs and/or assists in performing all routine mammographic examinations in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures. Sets up, adjusts, and operates mammography equipment, selecting proper technical factors to obtain accurate diagnostic images; properly positions and immobilizes patients. Responds to patients’ needs as required. Maintains cleanliness of equipment and general working area, stocking clinical supplies. Ensures proper operation of x-ray equipment. Performs mammographic procedures including needle localization, seed localization, and stereotactic biopsy.

Qualifications

  1. Prior work experience of twelve months is desired in order to gain familiarity on-the-job with administration of radiologic testing. Should be familiar with most major models of radiologic testing equipment. New x-ray technologists require a period of 30 days in order to orient themselves to techniques and work area. 2. Good analytical skills necessary for handling of radiology patients during administration of diagnostic testing. Must be able to appropriately assess the correct action to take during testing, while being cognizant of patient well-being. Must accurately monitor radiation exposure or potential for electric shock, etc. 3. Good interpersonal manner important during delivery of patient care in order to ensure harmonious provision of radiologic diagnostic examination. 4. Work requires manual dexterity for use of x-ray and other equipment and instruments. Light lifting of clinical supplies may be required. Adequate physical strength required for positioning of patients and equipment during examinations. Accurate positioning of patients is critical in order to ensure proper quality of mammographic examination results and patient safety.

Responsibilities

  1. Under supervision of physicians, prepares patients and examination areas in accordance with department policies and procedures for administration, as appropriate, of all screening and diagnostic mammography examinations. Sets up, cleans and safeguards mammography machine and ancillary equipment. Observes radiation and equipment safety precautions both for equipment maintenance and patient and employee well-being. Provides patient orientation prior to examination session.

  2. Under supervision, performs or assists in performing mammography procedures in accordance with established clinical protocols. Positions patients in accordance with established techniques. Operates and adjusts equipment, determining current settings and monitoring patient and employee radiation exposure; observes safety guidelines. Responds to patients’ needs during testing and procedures. May assist in preparing procedure trays and injectables under aseptic technique, following established guidelines for reviewing expiration dates and patient allergies if applicable.

  3. Provides related support functions as required. Scheduling exams, answering telephones for area and recording messages. Maintains clean work area and equipment and maintains full stock of applicable clinical supplies. Properly prepares contrast media as needed. Files film as required

  4. Performs weekly, monthly, quarterly, and semi-annual mammography QC testing. Ensures good working order of equipment. Troubleshoots routine equipment problems or seeks technical assistance for equipment malfunctions, keeping chief technologist appropriately informed.

  5. Performs other related duties as assigned or required as professional technologist.

Compensation Statement

Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $46 - $54 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
