Guardian Life Lead, Category Management – Technology Procurement in New York, New York

Guardian has recently launched a new end-to-end sourcing and contracting platform and workflow. The Lead, Sourcing & Contracting, would be in a position not just to learn the new process, but also to help Guardian’s requestors by solving their sourcing and contracting needs.

This role is responsible for running the sourcing processes (RFx) to assist with selecting the vendor as well as handle complex sourcing and contract negotiations. The Lead, Technology Sourcing & Contracting will liaise with suppliers/partners and negotiate contract business terms stemming from the following technology categories: software, SaaS, hardware, telecom, professional services, & market data. S/he will become familiar with Guardian’s contract landscape, supplier base, and manage key suppliers. S/he will also need to engage the business early in the sourcing process to understand requirements, propose category management ideas and cost saving opportunities. This position reports to the Head of Category & Supplier Management.

You will

  • Run the sourcing processes (RFx) to assist with selecting the vendor as well as handle complex sourcing and contract negotiations.

  • Provide the first layer of review prior to sending matters to legal and will need to directly interface with suppliers and internal business partners. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills, possess the ability to multi-task, be detail oriented, and be able to set and manage priorities.

  • Will be liaison with suppliers/partners and negotiate contract business terms stemming from the following technology categories: software, SaaS, hardware, telecom, professional services, & market data.

  • Become familiar with Guardian’s contract landscape, supplier base, and manage key suppliers.

  • Engage the business early in the sourcing process to understand requirements, propose category management ideas and cost saving opportunities.

  • Manage and prioritize a large volume of contracts and sourcing projects simultaneously.

  • Provide the first layer of review prior to sending matters to legal and will need to directly interface with suppliers and internal business partners. Demonstrate

You have

  • Bachelor’s degree in technology, Finance, Legal, or Business, MBA not required but preferred.

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in sourcing and contract negotiations experience required.

  • Demonstrable understanding of the end-to-end sourcing and contracting process.

  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).

  • Ability to comprehend business and legal terms related to sourcing/contract matters.

  • Must demonstrate analytical and contract negotiation skills.

Sourcing

  • Ability to perform sourcing RFx events for Software, Hardware, SaaS, Services, Cloud, Telecom, & Professional Services related categories.

  • Lead the Sourcing Process: prepare RFI/RFPs by working closely with the business to understand their requirements.

  • Research and advise Guardian stakeholders on supplier options, deal structuring and other deal aspects, including deal duration, selection criteria and supplier KPIs.

  • Create evaluation sheets and perform qualitative and quantitative analysis to drive to consensus on supplier selection.

  • Providing detailed analysis of supplier proposals to stakeholders, including pricing and business terms.

Contracting

  • Ability to lead contract negotiations for Software, Hardware, SaaS, Services, Hardware & Telecom, Market Data related contracts (i.e.: Master Software/SaaS Agreements, ELAs, Professional Services Agreements, Letter of Intents, etc.)

  • Ability to collaborate with various internal stakeholders on all requirements and work with Legal, Information Security, Privacy, and Risk Management on contract negotiations.

  • Candidate must be good at analysing and negotiating business terms and conditions with suppliers.

  • Obtain savings and cost avoidance through negotiations.

  • Ability to plan, organize and carry out multiple related sourcing and contracting activities simultaneously.

Location

  • Hybrid role: 2 days in office; 3 days WFH. Located at the Holmdel, NJ or Hudson Yards, NYC office. Travel to other offices as needed.

Salary Range

$99,190.00 - $162,955.00

The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. The salary for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. In addition to salary, this role may also be eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
