New York University Junior Research Scientist (Robert Richmond and Toomas Laarits) in New York, New York
We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated individual to work as full-time research scientist for a period of one or two years. The start date can be as early as July 1, 2025.
This position is ideal for someone who has a long-term interest in finance and economics research and is planning to go to graduate school in economics, finance, or a related field. You will work closely with NYU Stern Finance Professors Robert Richmond and Toomas Laarits. Past research scientists holding this position have gone on to PhD programs in finance at Berkeley Haas, NYU Stern, and UCLA Anderson.
Robert Richmond’s ongoing projects cover topics in international finance, macroeconomics, and asset pricing. Toomas Laarits’ ongoing projects cover asset pricing, behavior of retail investors, financial intermediation, and monetary policy.
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $50,440-$60,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
The ideal candidate will:
Have a strong quantitative background (Math, Computer Science). Formal training in economics is not a requirement.
Have strong coding skills (R, Python, or Stata).
Be able to work independently to solve problems.
Have an interest in pursuing a career in academic economics or finance.
The position will be based in New York City (near Washington Square Park), and research scientists are invited to participate in the academic life at NYU, for example by attending research seminars and PhD courses.
