Junior Research Scientist

Full-time

The Thomsen Laboratory of Molecular Pathobiology at New York University seeks to recruit a highly-motivated Junior Research Scientist. The position involves assisting in the development and characterization of a new class of pharmacological compounds that targets G-protein coupled receptors. Previous research experience with pharmacological characterization of compounds/receptor constructs using cell-based assays is desired. In addition, the ideal candidate should be familiar with basic molecular and cell biological techniques. The candidate will receive training, a competitive research experience, and will benefit from a highly diverse and inclusive atmosphere in a world-class scientific environment.

Principal Responsibilities Include:

  • General lab management, including preparing and ordering reagents, maintaining laboratory inventories and equipment.

  • Optimizing and performing cell-based assays.

  • Characterizing pharmacological properties of small molecule compounds and different receptor constructs.

  • Analysis and reporting of pharmacological data.

  • Molecular biology, including preparation of DNA/RNA as well as proteins for western blotting.

  • Cell biology, including maintaining and transfection of cell cultures.

  • Assist lab members in performing experiments.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $50,000 - $60,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in biomedical or chemical sciences and at least 1-3 years of related experience.

  • Knowledge of various related laboratory procedures and techniques.

  • Broad knowledge of biology laboratory practices.

  • Must possess a high level of initiative and ability to work with little direct supervision.

  • Initiative and willingness to help at all levels in the lab.

  • Excellent organizational, time, and project management skills.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact professionally with different levels of staff and students.
