MUFG Java Senior Software Engineer Lead – Vice President in New York, New York

The selected colleague will work at an MUFG office or client sites four days per week and work remotely one day. A member of our recruitment team will provide more details.

In this role you will apply your technical expertise and domain knowledge to all aspects of the software development lifecycle, as well as partner continuously with several key technology and business stakeholders on a frequent basis. Whether balancing the needs of multiple stakeholders or supporting more senior staff on complex projects, you will use data and analysis and apply your technical experience, judgment, and risk mindset across your responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform complex application design and programming activities using the latest techniques: Java, REST, microservices, AWS/Cloud infrastructure, Spark, Kubernetes, Docker, Jenkins.

  • Provide technical leadership in terms of architecting applications, mentoring developers, making technology decisions, etc.

  • Deliver projects that adhere to continuous delivery practices with automated unit testing, integration testing, and performance testing pipelines.

  • Provides L1, L2, L3 support for all Capital Markets systems and business users in Front Office, Middle Office, and Operations areas.

  • Troubleshoots issues and problems, comes up with clear action plan(s) to resolve such issues; develops, tests and implements the agreed solution into production, following the Bank’s enterprise policies, standards and procedures.

  • Acts as IT lead for projects requiring not only development, but also coordination with other teams, business analysis and testing.

  • Partnering with subject matter experts (SME) to translate project objectives and requirements into a detailed technical requirement document with timelines, task lists and next steps.

  • Works closely with Business users to document, define and track project technical requirements, milestones and deliverables for one or many projects.

  • Organizes the work assignments of key technical projects and communicates to all project participants concisely, leveraging JIRA.

  • Interacting closely with project managers, internal constituents, and external vendors to deliver the work assigned to the development team.

  • Liaising with the various vendors to learn their systems and look for improvements.

  • Always looks for Improvements and ways to better run the business and the platforms.

  • Proven ability to quickly earn the trust of sponsors and key stakeholders; quickly learn from existing documentation and with minimal guidance; execute with limited information and ambiguity.

Required Skills:

  • 12+ years of application software development using Java, Python, and/or C#.

  • Minimum 12 years of developing at all levels of the application stack (front end/UI, middle/services and back end/database).

  • Working knowledge of vendor applications such as MSCI Risk Metrics Analytics, S&P Global FrameWRX, mOLAP solutions (Oracle Hyperion Essbase, ActiveViam Atoti or equivalent), cros-asset front-to-back trading platforms (Adenza/Calypso, Murex, ION, Finastra, etc.)

  • Experience with Java and Java frameworks.

  • Experience implementing and maintaining RESTful APIs.

  • Advanced knowledge of application, data, and infrastructure architecture disciplines.

  • Cloud experience, preferably in Amazon Web Services (AWS).

  • Experience in designing data models and structures to store various kinds of data in different formats.

  • Experience in leading teams in Agile or Waterfall environments.

  • Expertise in managing applications development using web technologies: Restful Services, JavaScript.

  • Prefer prior experience working with front, middle or back-office teams in a financial institution.

  • Experience in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Unix /Linux based environments.

  • Experience with databases such as Oracle and SQL Serve RDBMS, PostgreSQL or NoSQL.

  • Experience with virtualization, containerization and serverless computing.

  • Experience with monitoring systems and diagnostic tools.

  • Trained in CI/CD principles and DevOps workflow tools such as Azure DevOps or Jenkins.

  • Trained on Atlassian suite (Jira, Confluence, etc.).

Preferred Skills:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Able to research and learn new methodologies and technologies and bring knowledge back to the team.

  • Ability to present information to a wide variety of audiences including senior management.

  • Ability to lead technical teams and influence a large group of people without directly managing them.

  • Ready, willing, and able to pick up new technologies and pitch in on story tasks (design, code, test, CI/CD, deploy, aftercare support, etc.).

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Finance or a closely-related discipline, or an equivalent combination of formal education and work experience.

  • Professional certifications in AWS Cloud Practitioner/Developer and Object-Oriented Programming languages.

Other Qualifications :

  • As per MUFG’s work policy, must work onsite 4 days and 1 day remotely out of 1251 Avenue of Americas, New York, NY.

The typical base pay range for this role is between $134K - $182K depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and location. This role may also be eligible for certain discretionary performance-based bonus and/or incentive compensation.
