Project Overview and Role:

Data for Implementation (Data.FI) is a five-year global project funded by the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), whose goal is to accelerate and sustain access to high-quality data to expedite HIV and COVID-19 epidemic control and maintenance. Data.FI is led by Palladium, in partnership with JSI Research & Training Institute; Johns Hopkins University, Department of Epidemiology; Right to Care; Cooper/Smith; IMC Worldwide; Jembi Health Systems; and macro-Eyes.

Palladium seeks a summer intern to provide monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) support to the Data.FI project. The intern will report to the Senior Technical Advisor for MEL. The interns are expected to work from mid-July to mid-September 2021.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Draft concise literature reviews on COVID-19, HIV, MEL, surveillance, health security, research and other topics to be defined

  • Review project documentation to extract key findings; write summary report of findings

  • Conduct high impact data analyses and visualizations using Excel or other data visualization software

  • Curate Excel-based results database and liaise with activities to follow up on results reporting requirements

  • Support knowledge management, communication and learning activities

  • Support activity lead administrative and management tasks

  • Any other duties as assigned by the Senior Technical Advisor for MEL, DIAS

Required Qualifications:

  • Directly relevant coursework and/or experience and skills in at least one of the following areas: monitoring and evaluation, international development, public health, and/or public policy

Key competencies (all required):

  • Ability to deliver work under tight deadlines

  • Comfort with ambiguity in task load and able to operationalize ideas into solutions

  • Adaptability - ability to pivot workflow and plans rapidly

  • Critical and reflective thinking skills; systems thinking skills

  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with diverse stakeholders

  • Detail-oriented and organized

  • Self-motivated and proactive

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to write technical documents

Candidates with at least 2 of the skills listed below are encouraged to apply:

  • Education or experience in global health, HIV, international development, and/or public policy

  • Experience conducting literature reviews and other research support t

  • Knowledge of monitoring, evaluation and learning basics

  • Expertise in Excel-based databases

  • Developing data visualizations

  • Using statistical software (e.g., Stata, SPSS, R, SAS, SQL, Python)
