McGraw Hill, the leading provider of digital and print educational solutions, is looking for an HR Director within our Business HR team to work with our School (K-12) business unit. School is a comprehensive, innovative, fast growing, billion-dollar Instructional Materials, Services, and Data Provider directly to the US education market and indirectly to the global education market. This individual is accountable in partnership with the SVP, Business HR to drive business performance through an integrated approach, which aligns the business strategy to the human capital strategy. This role enables the execution and delivery of strategic priorities to align or connect core HR elements to business strategy resulting in improved business performance in areas such as productivity, talent and, efficiency.

Location: Remote within the United States (travel required several times per year for in-person meetings and events). Proximity to a MH office in Columbus, Ohio; New York, NY, Chicago, IL or Red Bank, NJ is a plus. Candidates must reside permanently within the US to be considered.

What can you expect from the position?

  • Strategic Partnership: Understand the business strategy and proactively design and implement people strategies that support business-specific objectives, cross-functional strategic initiatives, and organizational effectiveness. Collaborate with business units, HR COE, and cross-functional partners (e.g., Legal, Finance).
  • Relationship Management: Build and manage strategic relationships to proactively facilitate effective information flow, decision-making, and actions on human resources issues across business unit and projects.
  • HR Program Development: Partner with COEs to develop and implement HR programs, policies, and processes for assigned business units, including resource planning, talent acquisition, onboarding, goal setting, performance management, total rewards, engagement, leadership assessments, and succession planning using data-driven insights. Proactively recommend process, product or service improvements.
  • Organizational Design: Plan and lead organizational design projects to streamline and implement new structures, roles, and processes that enhance speed and efficiency and support shifting business demands in collaboration and partnership with the business, HR COE and cross-functional partners such as Legal and Finance.
  • Change Management: Lead and assist in organizational change/transformation initiatives, ensuring alignment with business goals and collaboration with HR COE and cross-functional partners.
  • Performance Improvement: Drive team, function, and organizational performance while acting as a role model and catalyst for change. Provide training, coaching, and collaboration with business leaders in employee development, teambuilding, performance management, and talent planning.
  • HR and Business Metrics: Contribute to the design and development of HR and business metrics to analyze and identify staff issues, talent needs, and trends.
  • Strategic Workforce Planning: Contribute to the design and development of a strategic workforce framework, optimizing the organization's talent, structure, processes, and culture.
  • DEI&B Initiatives: Champion culture and DEI&B (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging) initiatives and programs, modeling DEI&B values and standards in collaboration with business units, HR COE, and cross-functional partners.
  • Transformation Support: Support ongoing transformation initiatives within the business and HR function, including change management.

What We're Looking For:

  • Experience: 10+ years of HR experience, with demonstrated ability to work independently in a senior Business HR role, solving complex problems and influencing senior leaders.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to act as a coach and achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Change Management: Proven experience in transformation/change management.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, using data to measure performance and effectiveness of HR strategies.
  • Travel Requirement: Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education: Master's degree.
  • Specialized Experience: Demonstrated experience working independently in recruitment and employee relations

The pay range for this position is between $120,000-160,000 annually, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and location.An annual bonus plan is provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical and/or other benefits, depending on the position offered.
