Dow Jones Executive Producer, WSJ YouTube in NEW YORK, New York

Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is looking for an Executive Producer to lead a team of short-form video producers to create timely video features, recurring franchises and in-depth explainers for our WSJ YouTube channel.

The Executive Producer will establish the editorial and creative vision for this team, have a deep understanding of The Journal’s core coverage areas and will drive the team to develop and execute creative approaches to video storytelling.

Top candidates for this role will have excellent editorial judgment, strong field production experience and team-management skills. We are seeking an experienced producer with a track record of pitching original video ideas, developing and executing new formats and series and crafting projects in edit.

Leadership, decisiveness and clear communication are critical for this role. The Executive Producer will be expected to partner with high-level stakeholders, as well as editorial leaders from across our newsroom’s coverage areas to generate new story ideas. You will mentor and empower a group of video journalists to do their best work under tight deadlines and continue to raise the bar for video journalism at The Wall Street Journal.

The position is based in our New York City office and reports to the Senior Executive Producer of the YouTube producing team.

You will:

  • Lead a team of short-form video journalists, editors and graphics animators to produce features, recurring franchises and in-depth explainers for WSJ YouTube channel.

  • Collaborate with editorial leaders across all coverage areas to identify opportunities to partner on reporting and communicate original video plans that relate to their beats.

  • Work closely with producers during pre-production to hone story angles, review pre-interviews and visual execution plans.

  • Provide clear and constructive notes on scripts and videos in edit, ensuring that the final product is structured and produced to maximize audience retention and engagement.

  • Mentor team members to develop new skills and provide opportunities for growth.

  • Ensure videos maintain the highest production value and all journalistic and legal standards are followed.

  • Work late hours and weekends as news developments may warrant.

  • Complete additional duties as assigned.

You have:

  • At least 10 years of experience working in video production at a national or global media company.

  • A track record of translating complex business and economics stories into reporting that informs WSJ subscribers and appeals to broader audiences.

  • Professional experience writing, reviewing and elevating scripts.

  • Specific understanding of content and audience differentiation on various platforms including YouTube, Snapchat, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn and Facebook.

  • Track record of developing successful non-fiction videos and series for aforementioned platforms.

  • Experience managing budgets for one-off and series projects.

  • Clear communication skills with exceptional written and collaboration skills.

NYC Pay Range: $65,000 - $200,000
