We are looking for a multidimensional and experienced Application Development leader in the Global Risk & Compliance Technology (GRCT) organization. The GRCT team crafts, develops, and supports critical components and platforms for new products being launched to support the next generation of customers across market segments. We need a hands-on leader then join us and you could be a key member of this future, as we build software to support and improve our industry-leading credit and fraud risk practices and deliver on our platform vision. The leader holds responsibility for maintenance of existing platforms, including application updates and deployment of new capabilities. You will lead the workload and priority of the Engineering teams as well as relationships with product owners, business teams, and third-party product vendors.

AMEX is embarking on a transformational journey to modernize their core risk management ecosystem. Managing Risk today requires an integrated, unified, enterprise effort with a system that allows you to quickly understand how any level of the organization is performing against risk. A common data taxonomy underpins a core framework for risk assessment and issue management. As the company realigns our IRM business architecture based on industry standards, best practices, regulatory expectations, and problems, the IRM program we will be establishing and completing a Point of Arrival target state IRM solution & framework.

Lead development and delivery of existing and new platforms in the Integrated Risk Management (IRM) space, prioritize the reuse of Enterprise frameworks in new and unique ways, and engage in product evaluations in build vs buy decisions. American Express is known for customer service; the goal of the new platforms is providing the same world-class user experience for our internal colleague customers that we provide to our external customers every day!

You will be crafting and building dedicated, scalable solutions that meet the needs of our customers. You will architect, develop, and test scalable data platform components. You will collaborate with a variety of teams and individuals, including product owners and Business logic managers to understand their needs and come up with innovative solutions. You’ll work with hardworking Application Developers and collaborate with product managers and solution architects to help define new products and features.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technology Leadership: Lead a team of dedicated engineers to design, develop, and maintain IRM platforms. Provide guidance, mentorship, and strategic direction to ensure delivery of scalable, reliable, and performant solutions.

  • Platform Development and Optimization: Drive the optimization of IRM platforms within established budgets for application delivery and platform health. Implement standard processes for performance, security, and scalability in compliance with industry regulations and frameworks. Identify areas for improvement and drive continuous enhancement of system performance.

  • Collaboration and Integration: Work closely across teams, including product management to integrate IRM platforms with Enterprise systems, APIs, and data sources, handle shifting priorities and act as key contact for issue resolution.

  • Team Development and Management: Cultivate an innovative team spirit, excellence, and continuous learning within the engineering team. Provide leadership in talent acquisition, skill development, and performance management to build a successful engineering organization.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science/Engineering and 12 years of experience in related fields.

  • Shown expertise in building and optimizing large-scale, data-intensive platforms and orchestrating migrations from legacy platforms.

  • People leadership experience. An ability to evaluate team structures and optimize them against delivery goals and objectives.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with Risk Controls Self-Assessment (RCSA), Operational Risk Management and Enterprise Risk Management.

  • GRC/IRM/RCSA platforms and tools (Archer, ServiceNow, AuditBoard, MetricStream, etc) and experience in their integration with custom engineering solutions.

  • Experience with Big Data Platforms including Google's GCP big data platform.

  • Experience in services-based architecture and applications.

  • Experience in driving engineering excellence in the areas of coding standards, code reviews, testing practices, CI/CD pipelines and adoption of DevOps standard processes.

  • Operating teams within set budgets.

  • Understanding of regulatory challenges related to IRM and their impact on technology platforms.

Qualifications

Salary Range: $170,000.00 to $255,000.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
