Thornton Tomasetti Engineer (Summer 2025) - Sustainability & Resilience in New York, New York

Our Sustainability & Resilience practice collaborates with clients and project partners to integrate successful green solutions into the planning, design, construction, and operation of buildings, reducing their environmental impact at every stage of their life cycle. We use whole system thinking and leading-edge analytical tools to develop innovative solutions that balance economic, social, and environmental factors. Our experienced team offers sustainable design strategies, energy analysis, green building certification consulting, sustainability analysis, and upgrades for existing structures, along with education and training.

The Role:

We have an immediate opportunity for an Engineer for our Sustainability & Resilience Practice. We are looking for a candidate with interest in climate hazard research and analysis, stormwater management and/or flood mitigation design experience, and willingness to learn new analyses methods and techniques.

Responsibilities:

  • Typical resilience projects involve climate hazard analysis and related mitigation design for master plans, campuses, and individual buildings.
  • Research and analysis of the latest climate and resilience-related academic and scientific studies.
  • Research and analysis of local and national baseline building code requirements and future projected climate change data.
  • On-site survey, inspections and investigations including surveying and documenting observations, photographing, and sketching.
  • Hydrological analysis and design of civil engineering stormwater management systems.
  • Review of existing project drawings, specifications, and related documents
  • Design drawing preparation and detail development using AutoCAD and Revit
  • Preparation of technical reports and presentations summarizing climate hazard assessments and mitigation design.
  • Collaboration and coordination with other TT Practices (i.e., Sustainability, Structures, Facades, Renewal, Transportation, Protective Design & Security, Applied Science, etc.).
  • Assistance in project administration on an as-needed basis.
  • Assistance in proposal writing on an as-needed basis.
  • Coordination of design work with in-house staff as well as other project consultants including architects and other engineering disciplines, cost consultants, and contractors.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • 0-2 years' experience with responsibilities described above.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Experience with mapping tools like ArcGIS Pro is preferred.
  • Experience with HydroCAD or other hydrological analyses tools is preferred.
  • Experience with flood mitigation design (using ASCE24, ASCE7), climate hazard analysis, and multi-disciplinary coordination, is a plus.
  • Experience with Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop and is a plus.
  • 3D Modeling, Rhino, and/or Grasshopper experience is a plus.


Compensation
The rate for this position generally is$73,500-$84,000annually.This range is a good faith estimate provided pursuant to the New York Pay Transparency Law. It is based on what a successful New York applicant might be paid and assumes that the successful candidate will be in New York or perform the position from New York. Similar positions located outside of New York will not necessarily receive the same compensation.Actual pay rates may vary from the range, as permitted byNew YorkEqual Pay Transparency Law. Compensation offers will be based on various factors, including operational needs, individual education, qualifications and experience, work location and comparison to employee already in the role, as well as other considerations permitted by law. A potential new employee's pay history will not be used in compensation decisions.
