Book of the Month Editorial Manager, Book Selections in New York, New York
Summary:
We are looking for an entrepreneurial and driven Editorial Manager to manage our title selection process. This includes tracking upcoming releases, organizing and assigning titles to readers, synthesizing and digesting reader reports, and presenting recommendations to the Editorial Director in a high-quality and professional way.
This is a great opportunity for someone with strong taste in upmarket and literary adult fiction, a passion for discovering and championing emerging authors, and the ability to manage a process effectively.

Book Selections Process:
Coordinate, execute, improve, and build upon all book selection processes in a high-quality, detail-oriented, and reliable manner
Ensure forthcoming titles move through the consideration pipeline in an organized, effective and efficient manner
Assign titles to full-time and freelance readers, review and synthesize feedback, present recommendations to the Editorial Director, and deliver on deadlines
Prepare slates of recommendations to the Editorial Director for review, and facilitate internal meetings as appropriate
Continuously find ways to iterate and improve our selection process over time; become familiar with the editorial team’s objectives and success metrics
Over time, develop the most effective team to handle reviews by identifying and evaluating full time and freelance talent
Evaluate the performance of individual titles and compile learnings and takeaways to share with stakeholders
Other Functions:
Read several books a week primarily outside of business hours
Advocate for books you think are excellent and will be commercially successful for Book of the Month
Demonstrate a clear understanding of your personal taste, the taste of our membership, and where these do and do not intersect
Serve as an effective industry relations professional by leveraging existing relationships and building new relationships to identify new opportunities
Work on other projects in editorial, original content, or other areas as requested
About you:
5+ years of relevant experience in an editorial or content development related role
Demonstrated experience successfully managing a high-functioning process with multiple participants
Fast reader, well-versed in adult fiction, authors, and successful commercial and literary fiction
You have exceptional taste, know what makes a book great, can communicate this effectively, and are willing to take risks
Strong network in publishing, screenwriting, or other entertainment industries is a plus
Experience with AirTable, Asana, or a similar Project Management tool

Base Salary Range: $90,000 - $130,000
