Dow Jones Editorial Director, Podcasts in NEW YORK, New York
The Wall Street Journal is seeking an editorial director to oversee a portfolio of daily, weekly and serialized podcasts for its global audio team. In this role you will be responsible for executing the vision of the head of audio and lead executive producers, supervising producers, producers/reporters and audio engineers in the news, and features and series team.
We are a growing audio unit that collaborates with the WSJ newsroom to produce high quality, factual, news-driven podcasts on topics that range from headline-driven podcasts focused on news, business, markets and personal finance to podcasts examining the changing dynamics of the workplace, technology and science.
In collaboration with the head of audio, the editorial director will create, develop and launch new daily and weekly features and deeply reported narrative podcasts. This role sits at the intersection of editorial, product and strategy and will be expected to have a deep understanding of the subscriber audience and the organization's potential non-subscriber reach.
Top candidates for this role will have excellent editorial judgment, strong production experience and team-management skills. Leadership, decisiveness and clear communication are critical for this position. We are seeking someone with strong production experience and a track record of pitching, developing and elevating original audio series. You will also be responsible for mentoring and empowering our team of audio journalists to do their best work under tight deadlines, while raising the bar for audio journalism at The Wall Street Journal.
This position will be based in our New York City office and reports to the Head of Audio.

Collaborate with the head of audio to oversee WSJ’s daily and weekly news podcast portfolio, help steer the editorial and creative vision, as well as, lead and empower production teams.
Partner with the newsroom’s editorial leaders to identify opportunities for coverage and generate new story ideas.
Serve as a key contact in newsroom planning meetings to identify distinct, daily and longer-lead story angles that are additive to written text or able to stand alone.
Empower audio leadership to push creative boundaries, develop new and innovative storytelling opportunities, and help steer them and their teams to meet productivity expectations.
Provide clear and constructive notes and timely feedback on scripts and cuts and mentor team members to develop new skills, while providing opportunities for growth.
Represent and advance the strategic priorities identified by the head of audio while developing new, streamlined workflows to improve productivity and output for the team.
Ensure all audio content meets the highest production value and all WSJ journalistic and legal standards are followed.
Complete additional duties as assigned, including supporting other WSJ podcast productions in New York and London.
At least 10 years of experience in audio storytelling at a successful daily podcast or radio program.
Experience leading and managing large teams in a deadline-driven environment.
Clear communication and exceptional collaboration skills.
Professional experience writing, reviewing and elevating scripts and communicating constructive feedback to other team members.
A track record of translating complex business, economics and tech stories into reporting that informs WSJ subscribers and appeals to broader audiences.
A deep understanding of current events and global politics, as well as a nose for news.

NYC Pay Range: $100,000 - $250,000
