About the Department

The DES function is to advance the org-wide commitment to a more diverse, equitable, inclusive, and socially responsible NYRR. The DES Department works collaboratively with the Human Resources Department to ensure that all employees are treated with dignity and respect in the workplace, that the employees’ unique identities and experiences are valued, welcomed, and respected. DES utilizes an evidence-based approach to identify, analyze, and address processes and policies that impact the employees and the employee life cycle. The Department uses a framework that focuses on equity-centered advocacy, education, workforce diversity, compliance, and policies.

About the Position

The Disability Inclusion & Accessibility Specialist will provide oversight for accessibility initiatives, partner to advance the disability inclusion strategy, and help to integrate the strategy into all areas of the organizational operations. This person will collaborate with Human Resources, Runner Services, Employee Relations, and Event Development & Production teams as a key liaison for the organization and provide strategic resource planning for services, facilities, policies, and procedures relating to, as well as the promotion of, NYRR opportunities for persons with disabilities. Continuous development and awareness in DEI current best practices is necessary. An external understanding and awareness, with exceptional understanding of internal firm dynamics and a high-level ability to influence change, are essential for success in the role.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate current state of disability inclusion and co-create a roadmap to close gaps to improve customer, community and colleague experience.

  • Stays abreast of information regarding state and federal laws and regulations, as well as best practices, concerning the rights of persons with disabilities and ways of providing reasonable accommodations to persons with disabilities while maintaining program performance standards.

  • Partner with Human Resources, Legal, and other stakeholders on ADA policy, physical and technology accessibility.

  • Work alongside existing accommodations team within Human Resources to ensure alignment of accessibility and accommodations work while collaborating to advance firm goals for both.

  • Provide insight and coordination for NYRR accessibility and disability initiatives.

  • Serves a key liaison across the organization, assisting with strategic resource planning for a programs, services, facilities, policies, and procedures relating to, as well as the promotion of, opportunities for persons with disabilities that may go beyond compliance with federal and state law.

  • Provides ADA advice on adherence to both policies on compliance and beyond towards a culture of belonging and inclusion.

  • May be asked to perform additional duties not listed in the job description as required by business needs

Job Requirements:

  • Three (3) plus years of experience in a position requiring leadership, analytical skills, and familiarity with ADA and other relevant law.

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in related area.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of ADA policy, accommodations management, disability market segment and digital accessibility.

  • Demonstrated experience in creating and supporting inclusive diverse and respectful environments.

  • Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization, to build productive working relationships.

  • Ability to develop, coordinate and conduct organization-wide and targeted educational programs including programming regarding culture, universal design, and electronic and information technologies accessibility.

  • Ability to develop, manage, and objectively evaluate projects and progress of those projects.

  • Ability to leverage qualitative and quantitative metrics to measure and evaluate the effectiveness of key programs/initiatives.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to work 3 large weekend events throughout year, and attend other events and programs as needed

Salary: $65,000/year

NYRR requires all employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19 unless approved for a medical or religious exemption.
