First-Citizens Bank & Trust Company Director: Relationship Management- Start Up Banking in New York, New York

Overview

This is a hybrid role, with the expectation that time working will regularly take place inside and outside of our Boston or NY office.

SVB Startup Banking is focused on engaging and building deep and authentic relationships with pre-Series A founders, investors (emerging managers), clients, prospects, and partners including accelerators/incubators, law firms, universities, industry groups, and more.


Responsibilities

The Director provides oversight of a Eastern US tech portfolio and team. Works directly with Portfolio Managers and the Business Development team to drive client acquisition and referral partnerships. Responsible for delivering differentiated value and a world-class experience to clients upholding SVB's brand reputation and commitment to helping technology founders achieve their goals. Demonstrates the ability to lead a highly effective team, drive profitability and maintain overall general management responsibility of a region.

Relationship Management:

  • Manages/coaches a team of professionals who are cultivating pre-Series A client relationships for their designated area.
  • Knowledgeable in SVB's core commercial banking products; responsible for enabling methods of helping SVB professionals to grow their wallet share via cross-selling SVB's products and services.
  • Responsible for identifying and resolving anything that might represent a gap or a problem that would interfere with the team's ability to effectively deliver on SVB's value proposition.
  • Fosters an environment where client-facing behaviors lead to authentic inbound new client referrals from existing clients.
  • Responsible for maintaining high Net Promoter Scores, Growing Client Funds, and driving improvements to overall ROI for the business unit.
  • Choreograph market-facing T&E expenses
  • Provide guidance and overall oversight/control for new/existing client due diligence, KYC, and credit and other regulatory processes carried out for the business unit.

Management & Strategy:

  • Leads a team of client-facing relationship managers; focus upon retaining and developing talent
  • Responsible for the regional P&L
  • Work with internal groups and other leaders at SVB to complete projects and tasks associated with product development, marketing, risk, and regulations
  • Involved in setting business strategy decisions affecting the financial and business success of the organization
  • Monitor and align goals / objectives to support the success of the group in contribution to the success of the organization.
  • Identifies and remediates concerns affecting the health and productivity of the business unit
  • Influence departmental policies and procedures
  • Responsible for managing all of the operational and credit risk for the department.

Market Engagement:

  • Proactively drives high quality client acquisition.
  • Collaborates with Business Development team to create unique programming and events focused upon driving value to the portfolio and greater ecosystem.
  • Builds and develop a network of channel partners within the innovation ecosystem.
  • Attends industry events and engages in public speaking as appropriate.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree plus 6-8 years of Relationship Management / Business Development experience or

High School/GED plus 10-12 years of experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience working in the venture/innovation ecosystem, either as an investor, founder, or service provider.
  • Experience leading a diverse team of professionals
  • Demonstrated experience working for a financial institution that specializes in helping innovative companies.
  • Proficient in using business productivity systems (e.g. Microsoft Office products, Microsoft CRM, etc.).
  • Excellent verbal, written, financial/analytical, and communication skills
  • Strong relationship focus, with an ability to relate business decisions toward optimizing the balance between fantastic overall client experience and business ROI.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team, both up and down the organization
  • Must be organized, detail-oriented, manage time and have strong prioritization skills across a large number of concurrent projects/activities

If hired in Boston or NY, the base pay for this position is generally between $138631 - 207947 annually. Actual starting base pay will be determined based on skills, experience, location, and other non-discriminatory factors permitted by law. For some roles, total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and/or other awards as outlined in the offer of employment.
