Urban Resource Director Compensation and Benefits - New York, NY in New York, New York

POSITION OVERVIEW

Responsible for the management and ongoing evaluation of the organization’s compensation and benefits programs, including base pay, incentive pay, health and welfare benefits, and retirement benefits. Monitors trends and provides recommendations for improvements. Creates policies and initiatives to ensure compensation and benefits programs follow all legal and organizational rules and guidelines.

Salary: $90,000 - $100,000

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Compensation

  • Administer a compensation program designed to achieve the objectives of the organization.

  • Analyze employee information on an annual basis to ensure that compensation and benefits programs are effective in attracting, retaining, and motivating employees.

  • Conduct external pay studies to ensure salaries are competitive within the industry; conduct internal pay studies to ensure there is no discrimination among employees’ pay rates.

  • Research and recommend pay structures.

  • Research and determine “total rewards” programs, such as benefits packages, health and wellness incentives, and monetary recognition awards.

  • In collaboration with the P&C team, provide guidance to executive leadership regarding:

  • The balance between external market demands and internal job value in determining pay levels.

  • The impact of the cost of health benefit programs on determining base pay levels.

Benefits

  • Manage employee insurance programs such as medical insurance, life insurance, dental insurance, etc., to ensure compliance with government regulations and benefit levels consistent with cost objectives.

  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures and those mandated by federal and state regulations for the administration of leaves of absence, reasonable accommodations, and return to work.

  • Train/educate hiring managers and HRBP’s on policy interpretation and consistent application; act as escalation liaison on all complex issues and provide prompt resolution.

  • Manage relationships with benefits broker and vendors to develop more robust communications on benefits offerings, in-house presentations and retention tools such as pension and wellness programs.

  • Facilitate accurate and timely delivery of employer contributions and employee payroll deductions to carriers, plan administrators, or other appropriate service providers.

  • Complete records, reporting, and other documentation required by federal, state, and provider rules, regulations, and policies.

  • Monitor administrators’ and insurance carriers’ reports to ensure the organization’s compliance with plan requirements.

  • Ensure the organization’s and plans’ compliance with the applicable provisions of COBRA, HIPAA, and ERISA.

  • Maintain knowledge of economic conditions, labor market, and other factors related to ensuring the organization provides competitive and reasonable benefits and compensation scales and structures.

  • Maintain knowledge of trends, developments, and best practices in compensation and benefits administration.

  • Create monthly intranet and email blasts on different benefits offerings.

  • Oversee Senior Benefits Coordinator to manage communications of benefits offerings to newly hired staff, as well as serve as a resource to existing staff to respond to their benefits questions.

  • Manage open enrollment process, including materials and communications.

  • Produce monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports.

  • Continually leverage the HRIS to produce analytics that inform stakeholders, and the HR team of key data points.

  • In collaboration with IT, manage the configuration, maintenance, enhancement, efficiency, and effectiveness of the HR Information System with respect to managing compensation and benefits.

SPECIFICATIONS FOR EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

  • Bachelor’s Degree in human resources, business, finance or related field required.

  • Master’s Degree in human resources, business, finance or related field preferred.

  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP preferred.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • 6-8 years of compensation and benefits experience, and management of functions and teams.

  • Experience benchmarking, recommending, and implementing compensation and benefits solutions that meet organizational needs.

  • Proven experience in implementing related programs and practices.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across the organization.

  • Strong project management skills, with advanced Excel skills, and solid familiarity with HRIS functionality.

  • Thorough knowledge of compensation and benefits laws, requirements, and best practices. Thorough knowledge of COBRA, HIPAA, and ERISA requirements.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

  • Strong vendor negotiation and management skills.

  • Advanced HRIS knowledge and experience, experience developing and building HRIS reports and data analytics to inform HR business decisions.

SPECIFICATIONS FOR PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Will be required to read printed and handwritten materials.

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds at a time.
