Safe Horizon CVAP Manager - Police Program in New York, New York

Summary:The Crime Victim Advocate Program (CVAP) is a joint program of Safe Horizon and the New York City Police Department (NYPD) that will assign advocates to every police precinct and Police Service Area (PSA) citywide.The Safe Horizon CVAP Manager will provide supervision for approximately eight crime victim and domestic violence victim advocates working in approximately four precincts. The Manager will develop relationships with precinct personnel and meet with them on a regular basis to ensure the precincts ‘and the community’s needs are being met. Responsibilities:Learn and integrate a trauma-informed, client-centered approach, using an anti-oppressive lens, into your work with clients. Coach and guide staff in their client practice that reflects these approaches.Hire advocates to work in precincts and PSAs;Ensure advocates are bilingual and bi-cultural as needed to meet individual precinct/community linguistic needs;Oversee training of advocates to ensure they have skills and knowledge to work with all victims of crime;Conduct regular visits to precincts and PSAs;Provide ongoing and regular individual and group supervision to address cases, professional development, vicarious trauma and self-care;Conduct observations of advocates’ work with victims and provide relevant feedback;Provide support to advocates as they intervene in difficult cases;Monitor contractual obligations;Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with precinct level supervisors;Meet with NYPD personnel on a regular and as needed basis;Plan and hold quarterly meetings with advocates and precinct personnel;Conduct training with police officers;Conduct community presentations on relevant victimization issues and dynamics;Participate in the development of policies and procedures;Represent the program to outside agencies and at public forums in the precinct and PSA communities;Prepare various reports and statistical data; andComplete other tasks as assigned.Qualifications: A minimum of two years’ experience in crime victim service delivery; one year as an advocate in the Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP) meets this requirementA minimum of two years of management experience helpfulKnowledge of the police and criminal justice system helpfulBachelor’s degree in social work or related field or equivalent training and experienceKnowledge and Skills:Clear and concise verbal and written communication skillExcellent interpersonal skills, be assertive and well organizedDemonstrate the ability to work independentlyUnderstanding of victims’ needs and resources availableOther:Ability to work under pressureFlexibility in hours to ensure availability for staff working eveningsCVAP staff will be given priority consideration.If hired, I agree to abide by all of Safe Horizon’s rules and regulations, and understand that, if employed, my employment may be terminated with or without cause, and with or without notice, at any time, at the option of either the company or me.
