We are seeking an accomplished writer to tell our brand and business unit stories and create the narrative around our product offerings. Confident and versatile—you can effortlessly flex between clever, concise copywriting and longer-form content writing. You will be responsible for crafting engaging copy that inspires and informs our audiences across different output channels including email, websites, social media, and product.

The successful candidate will join our designer in the New York office. You will report to the senior copywriter and collaborate closely with the wider creative team in London, the broader marketing group and other key stakeholders. You will develop messaging for various audiences, channels and stages of the customer journey. You will be a born listener with developed people skills and a high degree of emotional intelligence.

The role requires an excellent eye for grammatical detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects at once with fast turnarounds. You will need to have a proven creative track record with a logical outlook on creative process, problem solving and the ability to formulate and present rationale.



**Responsibilities**

**How you will contribute:**

The copywriter will write marketing copy, and edit marketing copy drafted by colleagues from within the organisation (e.g. members of the marketing team), and outside of the organisation (e.g. marketing agencies).

You will be responsible for ensuring that our marketing copy is both compelling and engaging, while at the same time remaining true to *The Economist* house style and reflective of the sharp and incisive writing of our journalists.

- Writing engaging copy and content across all businesses and touchpoints
- Collaborating with creative team to develop campaign concepts and end-to-end assets
- Sub-editing short-form (e.g. online ads) and long-form (e.g. direct mail) marketing collateral so that it is engaging and consistent with house style
- Reacting at speed when an event occurs that is of importance to our audience, to ensure we keep them informed and surface content (timely and timeless) at the appropriate time
- Writing product descriptions that are accurate, clear and concise so that subscribers understand what the products are and how and when they might use them

 

- Presenting rationale to key stakeholders while working with their feedback
- Stewarding a consistent brand voice across all communications
- Reviewing copy and creative, checking for context, spelling, syntax and tone
- Developing content for digital properties and webpages
- Managing feedback from creative reviews based on business needs
- Proofreading copy for clarity, accuracy and consistency
- Maintaining a project schedule to ensure on-time delivery of work



**Qualifications**

**The ideal skills and qualifications for this role are:**

- Understanding of the need for a brand to speak with one consistent tone of voice
- Ability to write compelling marketing copy
- Proven experience in both short-form and long-form copy
- A nuanced understanding of best practise in digital and print media
- Editing experience is an advantage
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal with fluency across digital and social channels

 

- Detail driven: highly organised and meticulous
- Team motivated with the ability to multitask, adapt and re-prioritise
- Solid time management skills: ability to keep multiple projects moving forward simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
- Strong relationship-building skills: ability to work with a variety of people including subject-matter experts and cross-functional teams
- An understanding of diversity in brand identity and corporate communications
- Bachelor's degree in English, journalism or related communications field
- Copywriting experience including writing product descriptions and producing marketing collateral for a variety of B2C and B2B products/services

The expected base salary for this position ranges from $45,000-$78,750. It is not typical for offers to be made at or near the top of the range. Rather, salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to base salary and a competitive benefits package, successful candidates may be eligible to receive a discretionary bonus based on role and level." (only use as applicable).
