Organization Overview: The Goddard Riverside Community Center (Goddard Riverside) and the Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center (Isaacs Center) are well-established Manhattan community-based agencies that support services to approximately 30,000 New Yorkers. Purpose of Position:Under the supervision of the Community Resource Coordinator, the Community Benefits Specialist assists with community outreach and engagement activities meant to promote food security, housing security, socialization, financial security, and health access. The Community Benefit Specialist will work on a team to facilitate food pantry distribution, outreach and wellness checks, community needs assessment and other program activities and initiatives.
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 35 hours per week.
Salary Range:$31,164-$38,955
Candidates must have the required qualifications to be considered for the position. The salary offer will be based on the candidate’s number of years experience in the exact or comparable position and additional preferred qualifications will be taken into account.
Roles, Responsibilities, and Essential Duties
• Assist in all aspects of the packing and distribution of nutritional food packages to eligible clients, including, but not limited to, stocking shelves, assisting with deliveries, and conducting intake and assessment.
• Deliver pantry bags to community members as per the assigned route
• Maintain accurate log of deliveries
• Perform data entry to support the flow of data and statistics for internal reporting and contract requirements.
• Conduct Community Needs Assessment of older adults living in public housing and surrounding communities.
• Provide assistance to Community Resource Coordinator
• Provide assistance with brief case assistance needs with tasks like registrations, Telephone reassurance, and simple benefit and entitlement applications.
• Track data associated with support calls
• Support homebound older adults.
• Provide support to aging services programming
• Perform other duties as requested.
Qualifications
• High School or High School Equivalency Diploma required; some college or experience preferred.
• Experience working with Community Members • Comfortable with making home deliveries
• NYC Food Handlers Certificate preferred.
• Bilingual English/Spanish or English/Chinese is a plus.
• Must be able to pass a criminal background check
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
• Good communication skills both listening and following directions
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Publisher
• Experience with inventory, stockroom, and product auditing preferred.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to work Indoor/Outdoor environment in various weather conditions
• Flexibility in schedule for timing and location.
• Ability to walk, climb stairs, carry and deliver packages of food
• Required to work the occasional evening and weekends as per program need.
• Ability to work either Thanksgiving or Christmas Day
