Citigroup Commercial Bank (CCB) - Global Industry Head, Non-Bank Financial Institutions - Managing Director/C16 in New York, New York

The Global & NAM Non-Bank Financial Institutions (NBFI) Head will be responsible for articulating and executing Citi Commercial Bank’s (CCB) growth strategy in financial services (excluding banks) to increase our revenues, market share and market presence while ensuring appropriate focus on returns, risk & controls and adherence at all times to regulations and Citi policies. The newly formed NBFI Industry is a key growth opportunity for CCB and the Global & NAM NBFI Head will consolidate our current NBFI business managed by generalist bankers to bring global industry focus in key sub-segments. A core part of the role will be to hire / develop bankers with relevant experience and to deliver the power of Citi for clients. The Global & NAM NBFI Head will be responsible for the industry financials and the management of the risk appetite / framework and controls.

The Global & NAM NBFI Head will need to have FI experience and demonstrate a strong understanding of the financial services industry as well as current and emerging competition. The role requires strong leadership and relationship building expertise and an ability to articulate, bring alignment, communicate and execute on a clear industry strategy for market leadership and growth in financial services. The role requires collaboration and close partnership with senior leadership within CCB as well as key partners in Banking, Risk, Products and other Citi businesses. The Global & NAM NBFI Head should be acknowledged by the market, clients and within Citi as the expert on the industry and seen to be making high impact positive changes in our value proposition and market positioning.

This role will report directly to the Global Head of Coverage Management and matrix to the NAM Head of Citi Commercial Bank. The NAM NBFI team will directly report into this role and other cluster / country NBFI Heads will matrix report to the Global & NAM NBFI Head in addition to their region / country reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy / Execution:

  • Size global growth opportunity and develop a strategy to be a major player in the mid-sized NBFI space

  • Align with key stakeholders in CCB, Banking, Risk and Product on market prioritization and resourcing

  • Directly manage the NAM NBFI team

  • Execution of strategy in partnership with other clusters/ country management

  • Be visible and acknowledged as the industry expert in the market, with clients and internally

Business Development & Sales Management:

  • Drive innovation including development and commercialization of industry specific solutions in partnership with products / regions / countries and leveraging digital tools and platforms

  • Drive industry thought leadership externally and internally and drive presence in industry

  • Coordinate industry webinars / client events / external marketing

  • Partner with products / Banking to establish clear guidelines and process for appropriate coverage for CCB names / prospects

  • Establish and lead robust sales management processes for pipeline management, new client acquisition, client penetration and share of wallet

  • Be responsible for Industry Financials including returns (RoRC / RoTCE) and conduct Industry Business Reviews

Risk Management:

  • Establish risk appetite for industry and subsectors, including target market definition and risk framework

  • Inculcate Risk & Controls culture in bankers

  • Lead Industry portfolio reviews, understand emerging industry trends and impact to CCB portfolio, work with Risk to develop risk mitigation strategies

Talent:

  • Build NBFI global coverage team and ensure deep understanding of relevant products and solutions; directly manage NAM team

  • Ensure best practices sharing and opportunities for mobility

  • Train, coach and attract and retain talent to the industry group

Qualifications:

  • Proven leadership ability with excellent interpersonal communication skills

  • 15+ years of FI / commercial/corporate banking experience

  • In-depth knowledge of all aspects of FI / commercial/corporate banking products including cash management, derivatives, syndicated and bilateral loans, capital markets issuances, trade, etc.

  • Significant experience with credit decision making authority, with experience in complex capital structures and cross border transactions

  • Multi-year experience pitching and executing capital markets solutions, including joint calling with investment bankers as well as independently is desired.

  • Must be able to actively engage with senior management within Global Commercial Bank, as well as the Banking, Capital Markets, and Advisory team and Risk Management

  • Strong credit skills with the capability to be appointed a senior credit officer

  • Ability to work effectively in team setting

  • Able to effectively interact with a variety of internal and external constituencies

  • Proven track record of successfully managing and leading teams through complex change; a reputation for retaining, attracting and developing talent   

  • Must have a sharp business development focus and demonstrate innovative approaches

  • Able to quickly adapt priorities based on the latest data insights

Education:

Bachelor’s/University degree, Master’s degree preferred
