Role Description

As a Software Engineer (Tier-2) Intern at FreeWheel, you’ll be at the forefront of our technical operations, ensuring that our platforms are resilient, efficient, and optimized for the fast-paced world of digital media. This isn’t just any internship—it's a chance to dive deep into the heart of our technology, work alongside industry experts, and make tangible contributions to projects that power some of the most sophisticated media experiences globally. What are some interesting problems the student will work on?

  • Optimizing Large-Scale Distributed Systems:  Engage in the design and optimization of systems that handle millions of transactions per second, ensuring they run smoothly under heavy loads.

  • End-to-End Troubleshooting:  Dive into intricate debugging sessions where you'll diagnose issues in real-time and deploy solutions that enhance system reliability.

  • Automation of Critical Processes:  Develop automation scripts that streamline routine tasks, improving efficiency and freeing up time for more innovative projects.

  • Performance Tuning:  Work on fine-tuning the performance of our platforms to meet the stringent demands of high-profile clients in the media industry.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure the availability, performance, and efficiency of FreeWheel platforms through rigorous monitoring and capacity planning.

  • Design, analyze, and troubleshoot large-scale distributed systems.

  • Debug and optimize code, focusing on enhancing system performance.

  • Automate routine tasks to improve operational efficiency.

  • Collaborate with engineering, vendors, and client services to deliver robust technical solutions.

  • Actively participate in emergency response situations to quickly resolve issues and minimize impact.

Preferred Skills

  • Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of distributed systems, networking, and cloud computing.

  • Programming Expertise: Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Python, Java, or Go.

  • Analytical Mindset: Ability to diagnose complex issues and develop innovative solutions.

  • Automation Experience: Familiarity with scripting and automation tools to streamline operations.

  • Collaboration: Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented approach to problem-solving.

  • Adaptability: Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Preferred Majors: Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Minimum Qualifications and Eligibility Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree from a United States-based college or university

  • Rising Junior or Rising Senior only (must have a graduation date between Winter 2025- Spring 2027)

  • Returning to degree-program (for at least a semester) after the completion of the summer internship (meaning, student must be returning to school for Fall 2025 semester before graduating)

  • Available to work 40 hours per week over the course of the summer program- June 2 through August 15, 2025

  • Authorized to work in the United States with no current or future sponsorship needs

  • Available to report in-person to the work location on the job posting (unless virtual offering)

Salary:

Base Pay: $40.00
