Under the direction of the Pulmonary Function Lab Medical Director and Practice Administrator for Pulmonary Diagnostics, the Clinical Coordinator is responsible for testing scheduled patients in the Cardiopulmonary Exercise Laboratory.
Interface and collaborate with the Medical Director of the Laboratory, and with referring providers and departments to ensure seamless patient flow, safety and customer satisfaction in CPET testing area.
Collect and maintain patient data and assist in the interpretation of all diagnostic tests.
Coordinate cardiopulmonary exercise testing for patients undergoing evaluation for cardio-respiratory illness at the hospital.
Collaborate effectively with the physicians assigned to the Cardiopulmonary Exercise Laboratory in order to achieve a positive experience for patients referred for this service.
Perform pulmonary function testing, cardiopulmonary stress testing and the completion of relevant questionnaires in compliance with national guidelines taking into account specific testing protocols appropriate to patient disease state as ordered by the referring provider.
Prior to each test, prepare and calibrate the instruments involved to assess pulmonary function tests (eg, spirometers), and cardiopulmonary stress test (eg, the metabolic system).
Maintain quality controls for equipment as per protocol.
Provide assistance as appropriate to ensure a positive experience for patients referred to the Cardiopulmonary Exercise lab.
Coordinate appropriate safety protocols and measures with the Medical Director, pulmonary fellow assigned to the Laboratory, and referring physicians
Communicate pertinent information such as critical results to referring providers.
Adhere to Infection Control, Patient Safety and Fire/Safety Protocols as all times.
Perform additional related duties as needed.
Bachelor's degree in education or experience, plus three years of related experience
Previous experience in Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing or Pulmonary Function Testing
- Registered Respiratory Therapist
Participation in the medical surveillance program
Contact with patients and/or human research subjects
Potential bloodborne pathogen exposure
Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements
