City of New York Body-Worn Camera Manager in New York, New York

Job Description

The New York County District Attorney's Office (DANY) has an immediate opening for a Body-Worn Camera Manager in its Litigation Support Unit (LSU). The Unit is committed to enhancing existing methods of obtaining, processing, reviewing, and handling of electronic evidence received and related to ongoing cases and investigations; assisting case teams in reviewing and accessing all Body Worn Camera footage; and protecting potentially privileged communications by removing them from prosecuting and/or investigating teams until a multi-level review determines they are either not privileged, or come within an exception to privilege. The Unit assists in cases office wide, including large-scale frauds, street crimes, and sex crimes. Reporting ultimately to the First Assistant District Attorney, through the Unit Chief or the First Assistant’s Designee. In this position, the manager is responsible for managing a team of analysts that provide technical and analytical support to the Unit and the office at large.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manages analysts and oversees daily responsibilities of others performing discovery-related work (including those working on staggered schedules).

  • Coordinates the interview, hiring, and training processes for all new Discovery Analyst staff.

  • Provide overall coordination in the retrieval and saving of NYPD related discovery and Body-Worn Camera video for DANY cases, including:

o Assist with associating any NYPD related discovery sent directly to LSU with an arrest and, if necessary, notifying ADA of the new discovery’s existence.

o Identify cases with outstanding discovery requests and coordinate with the NYPD and ADAs to obtain that discovery.

o Respond to general office queries and questions regarding NYPD related discovery.

  • Track and monitor assignments given to Discovery Analysts within LSU, ensuring accuracy and that deadlines are being met.

  • Prepare periodic reports for executive management regarding LSU productivity and assignments.

  • Alongside Unit Chief and Deputy Unit Chief, reviews workflows to ensure proper allocation of resources, and advises on anticipated work-related matters.

  • Act as the primary DANY liaison to NYPD for discovery related issues.

  • Collaborate with other DANY units on analysis and reporting metrics.

  • Serve as liaison with other bureaus and units such as HR, IT, and Operations on administrative-related issues.

  • Perform related tasks and duties as necessary.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and minimum three (3) years of relevant experience with at least 1 year managing or assisting in managing a team.

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field can be substituted for years of experience. *

Preferred Requirements/Skills:

  • Master's degree preferred.

  • Two (2) years' experience in e-Discovery with a law firm E-Discovery department, as a paralegal, or with an e-Discovery vendor, and with a prior managerial role overseeing operations.

  • Proficiency in multiple languages a plus.

  • Familiarity with the office and New York City and State courts a plus.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workflow.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple short-term projects.

  • Dependable team player who works collaboratively and cooperatively with staff in a team-oriented environment.

  • Highly skilled in standard computer operating systems and software (Windows, Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) with strong ability to learn new software.

  • Ability to work with large amounts of information and data, with a strong attention to detail and high concern for data accuracy.

  • Knowledge and skill set necessary for the following applications: LexisNexis and Clear.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills essential.

Additional Information:

  • Current office employees: To be eligible for a transfer or promotion, staff must have already served at least one (1) year in their current unit/bureau/department and be in good standing. In addition, must meet the minimum and additional qualifications of the position.

  • Looking for candidates who can commit to two (2) years to the hiring unit.

  • Authorization to work in the United States is required for this position.
