Description

The Attendance Youth Mentor working for Wediko NY/The Home for Little Wanderers at P.S. 155, The William Paca School, is responsible for supporting students who are struggling academically, behaviorally, and/or who have a history of poor attendance. The Attendance Youth Mentor provides supportive mentoring services, including attendance outreach and in partnership with the school staff, supports students in reaching their academic and social emotional goals.

The Attendance Youth Mentor position is a 10-month (September to June), part-time position (25-30 hours per week) and is supervised by the Site Manager and Program Manager. Position is Monday – Friday 5-6 hours per day. Salary: $21.50-$24.50

This position would be able to earn additional hours acting as a floater/substitute for our Afterschool Program at P.S. 155. These extra hours would be available based on daily needs of the program. If a daily position in after-school becomes available, there is a potential this position can become full-time, 5 hours during day program and 3 hours in after-school.

How You'll Be Making a Difference

Support a caseload of students, including tracking attendance and educational progress, providing students and families with continuous feedback and resources to meet their needs and promote academic success.

  • Provides individual and group mentoring to students on a weekly basis.

  • Provides attendance outreach to students and their families, including phone calls and written correspondence.

  • Plans and facilitates milieu services in common spaces, such as classroom, cafeteria, and afterschool push-ins, arrival and dismissal.

  • Serves as a Success Mentor, and provides attendance supports and interventions for students struggling with attendance.

  • Facilitates communication between students, families, and school staff.

  • Completes weekly Success Mentoring Logs.

  • Completes required documentation in a timely manner.

  • Co-facilitates Attendance Team meetings with Site Manager.

  • Participates in staff meetings and staff development opportunities.

  • Collaborates on transdisciplinary team of Wediko NY and school staff to create individualized plans to support student progress.

  • Cultivates and maintains effective relationships with school staff and other school-based partners.

  • Represents Wediko NY/The Home for Little Wanderers in the field via participation or presentations at panels, conferences, meetings, etc.

  • Supports the implementation of the Community School Model.

  • All functions and task responsibilities are subject to change, as deemed necessary by Site Manager and Program Manager based on needs of assigned site.

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or Equivalent; Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred

  • 1-3 years’ experience providing direct services in school-based or residential program

  • Strong communication (verbal and written with proficiency in English) and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to approach challenges in a supportive and creative manner

  • Commitment to working from a strengths-based perspective

  • Commitment to ongoing learning and development, proven use of supervision to improve practice

  • Excellent organization and prioritization skills

  • Bilingual Spanish preferred
