Robert Half Associate Director, Finance in New York, New York

Description

A UK based Art Gallery is seeking a seeking a skilled and motivated Associate Director, Finance. This person will be an important part of their New York team and will oversee the various accounting/finance functions working closely with the global finance team. This is a blended role where you’ll be responsible for month end close, monthly sales tax, financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting. Multi-state sales tax experience is an absolute must! Responsibilities:

  • Prepare monthly management accounts, balance sheet reconciliations, and analysis for review and consolidation.

  • Conduct financial analysis and reporting for the management team as needed.

  • Prepare the annual budget and forecasts collaborating with the local team to manage expenditure.

  • Regularly review to ensure the accuracy and completeness of the sales and purchase ledger.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to complete the month-end close process, including posting journal entries and preparing account analyses.

  • Advise the sales team on commercial deals, sales tax implications, and other compliance-related matters.

  • Raise sales invoices as required.

  • Work closely with the registrar team regarding the movement and release of artworks.

  • Perform monthly sales tax reconciliations and submissions.

  • Oversee submission and reconciliation of credit card expenses for the NY team.

  • Liaise with US tax advisors, accountants, and other relevant parties as needed.

  • Ensure compliance with accounting policies, standards, and other relevant legislation, including employment-related matters.

  • Perform other ad-hoc duties as required.

    Requirements

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10 years of prior accounting and finance experience, ideally in a gallery or other art-related organization.

  • Relevant accountancy qualification or equivalent experience.

  • Excellent communication skills and a detail oriented manner.

  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of sales tax.

  • Ability to structure tasks, balance competing priorities, and manage multiple stakeholders.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Advanced Excel skills.

  • Experience with SAGE accounting software is an advantage.
