About this role

BlackRock Private Markets

Charged with establishing BlackRock as clients’ preeminent partner in alternative investing globally, BlackRock Private Markets is one of the top five largest alternative asset managers in the world today. We are active in all asset classes and connect them in ways other firms can’t match, operating on an integrated platform consisting of real estate, infrastructure, credit, private equity, and hedge funds. Our scale means we offer expertise and access unique to BlackRock, and you’ll collaborate with teams across our firm in unexpected ways. As part of a key growth engine for the firm, you’ll be invited to continue building the platform that is shaping the future of private market investing by creating and evolving innovative investment ideas and tech solutions on a team that continuously outperforms – setting new standards.

BlackRock Impact Opportunities Overview

Founded in 2021, the BlackRock Impact Opportunities (BIO) platform is a $1 billion+ return-seeking impact-investing strategy focused on making direct investments across the private market universe.

BIO’s first vintage fund aims to uncover compelling investment opportunities for our clients by investing in businesses and projects owned, led by, or serving people of color, with a particular focus on Black, Latinx and Native American communities in the United States.

The Fund takes a dynamic approach to addressing the issue of racial inequity through direct investments across the spectrum of private asset classes- Private Equity, Private Credit, Real Assets, and other niche private market strategies, and across sectors. BIO was designed to pursue opportunities that have historically been undercapitalized and, as a result, may offer differentiated sources of return.

Job Responsibilities:

The BIO team is seeking an Associate-level investment professional to support the investment and portfolio management process. The Associate will partner with senior investment professionals to drive the direct investment process by performing company and industry due diligence, financial modeling, and other quantitative & qualitative analyses as part of the investment team.

In addition to assisting the team with sourcing, evaluating, and executing investment opportunities, the Associate will also support the monitoring and managing existing portfolio companies over the investment period, by driving value creation initiatives and evaluating exit options. The Associate will also support senior members of the team in the ongoing development and maintenance of a full suite of product marketing and client content, including presentation materials, due diligence materials, internal training materials, and periodic client communications and events.

Given the growth trajectory of the BIO platform, the team is looking for a critical thinker and a self-starter, who is passionate about investing and would be keen to take a leadership role in building the business. To this end, the associate will support fundraising by delivering relevant materials, thought leadership, and responses to clients, completing RFPs, preparing materials and speaking notes for senior leadership, and leading client diligence for a global set of clients. This will include remaining on top of the competitive landscape, and understanding BIO’s competitive positioning.

Critical to the individual’s success will be their intellectual curiosity, investment judgment, strong attention to detail, powerful work ethic, resourcefulness, and ability to work constructively with counterparties and stakeholders.

Requirements / Qualifications:

  • 3-6 years of work experience in private equity, investment banking, or other comparable role in industry

  • Experience with one or more private market asset classes (Private Equity, Private Credit, or Real Assets)

  • Passion for investing, intellectual curiosity as well as strong analytical, modeling, and critical reasoning skills

  • Ability to clearly articulate ideas, both written and oral, to internal and external audiences across various levels of seniority

  • Ability to work effectively at all levels of an organization and build strong relationships with team members and investment professionals across the industry

  • Candidates must be comfortable participating in diligence meetings with senior management, portfolio companies, sponsors, and other investment professionals

  • Strong sense of purpose around BIO’s impact objective

  • Proven experience in organizing and managing multiple priorities and deadlines

  • Must be able to work in team-oriented environment and show ability to quickly climb learning curve

  • Must demonstrate integrity and alignment to BlackRock’s principles and commitment as a trusted fiduciary to our clients.

  • Excellent academic record required

  • Fluency in Spanish is preferred.

For New York City only: The salary range for this position is $115,000 - $180,000. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including heath care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
