The incumbent will demonstrate a desire to learn pedagogical methodology in the early childhood classroom, the cross domain development of very young children, and the support of a play based curriculum.

Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Hollingworth Preschool at Teachers College, Columbia University is seeking an Assistant Preschool Teacher to join our preschool team. The incumbent will demonstrate a desire to learn pedagogical methodology in the early childhood classroom, the cross domain development of very young children, and the support of a play based curriculum.

Characteristic Duties And Responsibilities:

The Assistant Preschool Teacher will work under the direction of the center director and preschool director and collaboratively with the preschool staff to provide high-quality preschool education for young children and their families.

Teaching and Curriculum Design 60%

  • Participate and support the design, develop, and integrate child led and interdisciplinary curriculum

  • Individualize the curriculum and learning experiences to ensure the development of each child’s potential

  • Document and display children’s work virtually and on campus

Child Development 15%

  • Observe and document each child’s development

  • Participate in the analysis of each child’s development and learn appropriate responses to ensure each child reaches full potential

Parent Education 10%

  • Participate in special events for children, parents, and members of the community

  • Participate in parent/teacher conferences with parents throughout the year

  • Attend meetings and talks for parents

Professional Learning 15%

  • Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings, planning meetings, and curriculum designing meetings

  • Attend and participate in professional learning sessions

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • One year of experience with young children in a formal or informal setting or as a caregiver in a home

  • Ability to comply with the Teachers College Minors on Campus Policies as well as New York City Bureau of Child Care requirements including all mandatory trainings

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team setting

  • Ability to adhere to the highest standards of confidentiality

  • Ability to attend to all responsibilities with respect, initiative, attention to detail, organization, and independent follow through

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teachers College graduate student

This position has a start date of August 15, 2021.
