The IC is a robust center, providing programs and services to Muslims at NYU and in the tri-state area. ABOUT THE POSITION

The Islamic Center at NYU is looking for a Media Researcher to conduct research and collect data relevant to Islam, Muslims and the Media. The role will report to the Executive Director and will involve ingesting, logging and analyzing stories, images, etc. pertaining to positive and negative depictions of Muslims in media and also responsible for metadata. This research will be used to support the creation of media content, podcasts, and short films, host public events and discussions, and produce reports/studies to be shared with relevant stakeholders. The digital media coordinator will also oversee social media and technology of the center. The role will involve creating media content, podcasts, and short films, managing and developing all web-related projects, serving as a hands on audio visual technician during live events and for livestreams, and working on the multimedia content post-events.

This is a full-time, at-will position on an open-ended term, subject to program priorities, exemplary performance and availability of funds. QUALIFICATIONS

● Experience and understanding of media/social media best practices and channels, with an understanding of media/social media analytics and platforms

● Great interpersonal skills and experience supporting and working within a team environment

● Excellent verbal and written communication skills

● Strong time management and organizational skills, with an ability to effectively work in a fast-paced environment and a proven ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously

● Goal-oriented: ability to stay focused on creating winning results

● Excellent communications skills and process & procedure oriented

● Knowledge, familiarity of and work with diverse Muslim communities

● Bachelor's degree in relevant field

● Familiarity with collecting and capturing media in various forms and equipment including, but not limited to, video, photography, illustration/design, and webcast/livestream

● Advanced Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, WordPress, Canva, Mailchimp and other design platforms are recommended

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Researcher/Data analysis

● Works with key stakeholders and senior management to create and execute media research strategy

● Establish relationships within Muslim/non-Muslim community through daily interaction with social profiles to better understand trends and patterns in current and historical media narratives relevant to the Islamic Center's work and mission statement

● Write and present information gathered in research and recommendations about material to key staff

● Provide a monthly report to the Executive Director on trends and data of the Islamic Center's social media growth and progress

● Design and execute creative communications, digital, and storytelling strategies based off of research and data collection

Administrative/Operational

● Responsible for newsletters, emails, and announcement creation as well as website maintenance

● Ensure technology is used correctly for all operations (video conferencing, presentations etc.) and oversight of all media/digital media channels

● Support planning and coordination of programs and events where needed

● Evening and weekend hours are sometimes required
