The Trustees of Columbia University in the City of New York Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor of Anthropology (Open Rank) in New York, New York
Oct 04, 2024
The Department of Anthropology at Columbia University invites applications for an open-rank faculty position (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor) in the sociocultural anthropology of Asia, to begin as early as July 1, 2025.
We welcome applications from scholars with established and ongoing empirical research programs in any region of Asia (including East, South, Central and Southeast Asia), coupled with a strong theoretical agenda that would complement the interests and areas of expertise of our current faculty. We encourage applicants with a commitment to the discipline and who engage multi-and interdisciplinary questions and methods as well. Topical and theoretical fields are open.
We seek a candidate who will be eager to assume an active role in the life of our department, contribute courses in their areas of expertise as well as to the shared anthropology curriculum, and partake of the many adjacent and interdisciplinary programs in which anthropologists participate at Columbia.
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree and should have a demonstrated record of publication, and strong teaching experience (ideally) at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. For questions concerning the position, please email Jeanne Roche (jh3834@columbia.edu).
All applications must be submitted through Columbia University's Academic Search and Recruiting (ASR) system.
To apply, applicants must send a letter of interest outlining their research experience and describing their own hoped-for future plans for research and writing, and the names and contact information for three potential references (who may be contacted at a later date). They must also provide a CV that includes publications, previous courses taught, administrative and service experience, grants obtained, and a description of relevant language skills. Applications must also include two recently published articles or book chapters.
Materials should be uploaded via Interfolio/ASR system no later than December 1st to receive full consideration, although the committee will begin reviewing applications as soon as November 15th.
