New York University Assistant Professor (Silver and Steinhardt, New York University) Bridging Systems towards Equitable Solutions for Youth: Education, Mental Health, and Child Welfare in New York, New York

New York University’s Silver School of Social Work invites applications for one tenure-track Assistant Professor position. This line is one of four hires related to a new intellectual hub - Bridging Systems toward Equitable Solutions for Youth: Education, Mental Health, and Child Welfare – spanning the Silver School and NYU’s Steinhardt’s School of Culture Education and Human Development. The research hub builds on and strengthens the interdisciplinary collaboration of NYU Blueprints for Progressive Change in Juvenile Justice, co-sponsored by NYU’s Institute of Human Development and Social Change (IHDSC) and Cross-Cutting Initiative on Inequality (CCII). Successful applicants will become part of a hub of early career scholars and senior colleagues interested in working across multiple systems and disciplines to uncover across-system solutions to the negative consequences of social, racial, and economic inequalities in mental health, educational, juvenile legal and/or child welfare systems’ response to youth. The goal of the hub is to bridge disciplinary and methodological perspectives and generate innovative cross cutting solutions by both building on and building out NYU Blueprints. The hub will be anchored by structured mentorship, with each of the Faculty having a mentoring team of senior faculty across the Schools, as well as infrastructure support from the Silver School of Social Work and the Institute of Human Development and Social Change (Steinhardt).

Silver is committed to the success and wellbeing of hub scholars. We aim to provide comprehensive resources to support junior faculty engaged in critical research and teaching. At the same time, we understand the need to remain nimble and responsive to the needs of diverse junior faculty. To this end, we have established and continue to develop a range of supports within home departments and across the school and university. These include, but are not limited to, course reductions in the first three years, dedicated resources for teaching and scholarship, writing support, and professional development activities, as well as robust mentorship programs to nurture the continuing growth of hub scholars.

The Silver School of Social Work (SSSW) is an international leader in social work research and education and offers outstanding support for scholarship. Located in Greenwich Village on Washington Square Park and in one of the world’s great urban research universities, the SSSW is one of the 14 schools and colleges of NYU, the largest private university in the USA, with students from all 50 states and more than 100 nations. The Institute of Human Development and Social Change (IHDSC), a research center within Steinhardt and across NYU schools, aims to break new ground through support of rigorous research/training across social, behavioral, educational, policy, and health sciences.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this Assistant Professor position is $75,000 - $115,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

A doctoral degree in social work or a related field is required, along with an outstanding record of scholarship, including a well-conceptualized research agenda, evidence of extramural funding (or potential to secure extramural funding for assistant professor candidates), and publications in peer-reviewed venues. In addition to conducting research, the successful candidate will teach in the School’s academic programs (BSW, MSW, PhD, and/or DSW), and be fully engaged in professional service and leadership at the SSSW and New York University (NYU). Applicants should exhibit a commitment to social and economic justice and possess an ability to facilitate conversations concerning privilege, oppression, and intersecting social identities.
