Role Overview

The Assistant Controller reports to the Controller. The Assistant Controller will provide assistance and support to the Controller and CFO in the management of the Finance Department and its personnel. Working closely with the Controller, this role will handle all aspects related to financial reporting, internal controls, external audit, accounts payable and receivable, and manage and track donor restricted funds. The Assistant Controller will also be responsible for reviewing financial results with the Controller and CFO, and for performing other ad-hoc financial analyses and projects as requested.

SCOPE OF INFLUENCE

  • Direct client groups across multiple programs throughout the Agency.

  • Partner with internal customers and external clients

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Manage and support monthly financial close process.

  • Manage operational practices including AP٫ Management Reporting, Accounts Receivable etc.

  • Review and post journal entries٫ review invoices etc.

  • Reconcile GL Accounts, including Accounts Receivable, Advances, Loans, etc.

  • Assist in preparation of GAAP financial statements.

  • Manage and track donor restricted funds and maintain listing of Grant Sources.

  • Prepare Agency financial statements and provide explanations for budget to actual variances.

  • Prepare workpapers and assist with the annual Financial Audit

  • Participate in the preparation of reports for senior management, government, or other donors.

  • Assist Controller in training and development of finance personnel.

  • Research technical accounting issues for Controller and CFO as needed.

  • Manage bank reporting and required reports.

  • Continuous development of best practices with respect to internal controls, systems, and processes, including those applicable to purchasing, disbursement, and corporate credit cards; identify and advise on areas of Innovation, including where savings and/or business process improvement are possible or necessary.

  • Perform ad hoc projects and other duties as assigned by the Controller and CFO in a timely manner.

JOB REQUIREMENTS & SKILLS

  • BS/BA in Accounting, required.

  • Bachelor's degree with 8 years of experience required.

  • CPA, or working towards a CPA, a plus.

  • Experience managing and tracking Donor Restricted Funds a plus.

  • Experience managing and reporting on Government Contracts a plus.

  • Previous experience managing staff, required.

  • Detail oriented and highly organized.

  • Skilled in time management and the ability to prioritize tasks.

  • Solid understanding of GAAP and applicable regulations.

  • Effective, persuasive written and verbal communication skills.

  • Confidence to present and articulate recommendations to senior leadership.

  • High proficiency with MS Word, MS Excel, and Intacct (a plus).
