What we're looking for

Goldman Sachs Asset Management (AM) is looking for an experienced and capable Senior User Researcher to join our AM design team. We are looking for a practitioner with expertise in one or more of the following; human-computer interaction, cognitive and behavioral psychology, computer science, neuroscience, human factors, or ergonomics. As we grow our multi-discipline design team including UX designers, visual designers and motion designers we need research specialists who can partner with design, product and business teams to shape the strategic vision for AM, helping navigate large-scale digital transformation across the business. We are looking for a seasoned mixed-methods practitioner who can introduce research to product teams, launch research programs, and conduct studies to deliver insights on user needs and problems, workflows, and usability. We're also part of a wider design community at Goldman Sachs.

Key responsibilities

  • Responsible for scoping and crafting research strategy, conducting research, and delivering actionable insights for strategic research programs within financial services
  • Knowledgeable in how and when to apply both qualitative (usability testing, contextual inquiry) and quantitative (survey design, max-diff, multivariate) methodologies
  • You will be innovative, creative, and an analytical problem solver
  • You will help drive user-centric product teams, strategy, processes and products
  • You will have extensive experience working with development teams in an agile environment
  • You should have have superior interpersonal skills, excellent communication and organization skills
  • You will be expected to work on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Collaboration with designers, engineers and product managers will enable you to balance the right process and methodologies with the relevant business goals in order to deliver compelling research that focuses on business outcomes
  • To seek and report on the truth based on data and observations
  • Help grow an ambitious and talented team while focusing on cultivating a culture of collaboration and growth
  • Establish user research in Asset Management and help to support and grow the standard of user research excellence across Goldman Sachs
  • Above all, be a passionate advocate for the user

Basic qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in mixed-methods user research, in the context of product management, interaction design, information architecture, and visual design for digital experiences
  • Degree or Master's degree in UX, interaction design, human factors, psychology, anthropology, or related fields
  • Demonstrated mastery in a variety of research methods, including interviews, usability testing, continuous research, and survey design
  • Experience planning and facilitating workshops (hypothesis, concepting, design-thinking, insights) with stakeholders to generate impactful research insights
  • Connect research findings from multiple projects/sources and provide insights on a higher order
  • Utilize analysis methods, such as affinity diagraming, to synthesize findings and pull out actionable recommendations
  • Leverage heuristics, Voice of the Customer (VoC), statistical analyses, and other insightful methods to triangulate user pain points
  • Conduct competitive and comparative research and analysis to complement user research
  • Independently scope and plan a research program (can include multiple projects with multiple related studies), consulting with relevant stakeholders and team members
  • Self-motivated, self-managed, self-starter with a high degree of analytical ability and intellectual curiosity who is able to ascertain what the team needs and add value with little outside direction
  • Entrepreneurial drive and a desire to work in a commercially focused, fast-paced environment

Nice-to-have (but not essential) qualifications

  • Domain expertise in financial services and/or developer experience a plus
  • Experience conducting user research for complex business applications
  • Strong knowledge of user-centered design processes and principles
  • Experience with data visualization and visual design a plus
  • Understanding of inclusive design and how to evaluate the accessibility of user interfaces
  • Not required, but a plus: link to your online research portfolio or attach research deliverable samples

  • We're looking for talent in both London and New York

Salary Range
The expected base salary for this New York, New York, United States-based position is $150000-$250000. In addition, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus if you are an active employee as of fiscal year-end.
