Job Description

The Office of Chief Medical Examiner investigates cases of persons who die within New York City from criminal violence, by accident, by suicide, suddenly when in apparent health, when unattended by a physician, in a correctional facility or in any suspicious or unusual manner or where an application is made pursuant to law for a permit to cremate a body of a person. We exist to provide answers in support of families, victims, and community during times of profound need.

Under direction, with very great latitude for the exercise of independent judgment or action, an architect level III performs challenging, responsible, and technically complex architectural work; the responsibilities of this role are diverse and may include, but are not limited to:

-Help the agency with code issues with Agencies Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) – e.g., NYC DOB, FDNY, NYS DEC (Fuel Tanks), NYC DEP, etc.; and help prepare Contracts and Scopes of Work/Technical Specifications for both capital and expense projects and maintenance service requirements; inclusive of general building and facilities engineering knowledge (i.e., mechanical, electrical and plumbing).

-Serve as a consultant on complex and highly specialized architectural matters.

-Conduct or direct all aspects of research on highly complex and critical architectural projects.

-Oversee the preparation of reviews of proposals or reports of a complex nature. Review such proposals and reports and recommend appropriate action.

-Coordinate projects of great technical complexity with a significant potential impact on agency architectural operations and infrastructure.

-Present and defend proposals on major architectural projects to high-level agencies and city officials.

-Signs and seal architectural and other official documents.

-When necessary, perform the duties described under Assignment Levels I and II and any duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. A valid New York State Registration as an Architect. Current New York State Registration as an Architect must be maintained for the duration of your employment.

  2. In addition to above qualification requirements, to be eligible for placement in Assignment Levels II and III, individuals must have at least one year within the last three years of experience as a major contributor or a project leader on a complex project requiring additional and specific expertise in the disciplines needed to design or construct the project.

  3.
