WSP USA Air Quality/GHG Engineer in New York, New York

This Opportunity

WSP is currently searching for a Air Quality/GHG Engineer to join our New York, NY office. You will be a part of our Sustainable Infrastructure practice where you will you will provide air quality & GHG advice and technical support to our clients throughout the WSP organization, you will work with numerous clients in various sectors including transportation, industrial, waste management, oil & gas and renewable energy. Your work will include supporting permitting, air monitoring, dispersion modeling, NEPA analysis, health risk assessments, greenhouse gas analysis, sustainability reporting and regulatory compliance reporting. Additionally, you will prepare proposals and conduct business development with support from senior staff.

Your Impact

  • Perform NEPA and CEQA air quality and greenhouse gas analyses for projects throughout the country.

  • Prepare technical reports and presentations for our clients, agencies and the public.

  • Investigate and complete required air quality permits for our clients in various industries.

  • Assist with development and scoping of projects.

  • Work with local, national, and international teams in executing project work.

  • Comply with regulatory requirements pertaining to air quality and greenhouse gas modeling and modeling regarding data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, analysis protocols, and record compliance and retention.

  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.

  • Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting.

  • Remain current in latest air quality and greenhouse gas regulations and methodologies.

  • Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental, Chemical, or Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.

  • 3 to 5 years of relevant post education experience in environmental engineering.

  • Well-developed ability to undertake emissions and dispersion modeling using programs such as AERMOD, EMFAC, MOVES and CALEEMOD

  • Through knowledge of applicable CEQA and NEPA regulations regarding air quality and greenhouse gases.

  • Proficiency with air permit applicability analysis, understanding United States federal and state air permitting rules and with understanding air construction and operation permits.

  • Understanding of air permit compliance reporting.

  • Ability to stay organized and manage multiple projects and in parallel.

  • Well-defined specific knowledge of relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.

  • Project management experience with small to mid-level projects including tracking hours and expenses for project work.

  • Ability to work with local and remote staff

  • Ability to attend client/agency meetings

  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.

  • Highly capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.

  • Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.

  • Well documented ability to present results of technical analyses in a written, clear, concise manner

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.

  • Essential Professional Licensure/Certification.

  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.

  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.

Compensation:

Expected Salary (all locations): $73,1000 - $125,400

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
