CUNY SPH has four academic departments: Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Environmental Occupational and Geospatial Health Sciences, Community Health and Social Sciences, and Health Policy and Management.
Reporting to the Environmental Occupational and Geospatial Health Sciences Department Chairperson, the Academic Program Specialist will work closely with the Doctoral Program Director to develop, coordinate, and implement department administrative services for faculty, students and alumni and maintain the professional excellence and functioning of our academic departments.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Act as a resource for students, which includes assisting with registration, organizing doctoral student dissertation defenses, maintaining student resource websites, organizing school-sponsored social events for students.
Serve as an administrative contact for the Department of Environmental, Occupational and Geospatial Health Sciences and other offices within the School, including the Registrar, Academic and Faculty Affairs, IT, and Finance and Administration.
Develop and maintain systems to maximize department organization and efficiency for faculty, staff, students and alumni.
Manage department budgets and administrative processes, including purchasing and hiring paperwork.
Oversee department communication with faculty, students, alumni, and other relevant groups, including sending weekly email updates to students and organizing and updating information posted on internal student and faculty websites, schedule, organize and document departmental meetings and events.
Provide guidance and assistance to faculty on grant management, travel expense reporting and reimbursement.
Manage department records (e.g. faculty workload, course evaluations) and prepare department reports.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Note: Until further notice, this position is eligible to work remotely and work on-site in the office.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree and four years' relevant experience required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with a customer service focus
Ability to be a problem-solver taking a proactive approach when needed.
Ability to work independently while establishing priorities, managing multiple demands and projects and meeting deadlines but also be collaborative and ask questions when needed.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 such as Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook. Knowledge in preparing and managing budgets.
Experience working with PeopleSoft or other information management systems to compile, translate and utilize student and institutional data in an academic setting.
Experience with the computer systems used by CUNY such as CUNYFirst.

Supports program development, student service delivery, outcome evaluation and instructor/student recruitment, enrollment, and retention.
Recommends, implements and evaluates strategies to expand program offerings
Prepares analytical and statistical reports for management
Develops and maintains relationships with various College offices to improve student and faculty services
Serves as resource expert regarding program policies and procedures
Oversees office recordkeeping; manages updates of program web and print materials
May supervise office operations and/or department budget
Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Salary Range: $75,465 to $86,645
Salary commensurate with education and experience.
