We'll keep reading because we would love to meet you.We are seeking a Manager, Software Engineering in the Mastercard Connect Program. Mastercard Connect is the secure global platform where Mastercard customers come to onboard, enroll, service, and grow their business with us. It's also where Mastercard employees can engage with those customers to deliver a best-in-class experience that supports their business needs.Manager, Software Engineering will be responsible for leading overall delivery of large-scale engineering projects in the Connect Program. This individual will use their full-stack development knowledge to guide the team in advancing the Connect Experience in order to provide the best customer experience. They will raise the bar on technical excellence, show thought leadership, and ensure team delivery commitments are met. This role will be based in our Mastercard technology location in New York City Tech Hub, located in Mid-Town Manhattan which provides a state-of-the-art environment for technology teams to thrive in collaborative, Agile Engineering Culture.Responsibilities• Formally supervise and coach 2+ teams of engineers to build, enhance, and support multiple applications/services in the delivery of internal or market-facing Products, Platforms, or Product bundles• Work with business/product owners to develop and deliver on new services to introduce new products and bundles• Ensure objectives and development plans are established at the start of the year and reviewed continuously throughout the year• Recruit and hire the right talent, always bringing in someone better than at least half the individuals in the role• Continuously engage and improve teams’ performance by conducting recurring 1-1 meetings, knowing your people, managing career development, and understanding who is at risk• Provide and facilitate timely feedback, coaching in the moment, and mentoring for staff at all levels• Emulate and drive Mastercard Way behaviors through their behavior, recognitions, coaching, and employee engagement• Manage and optimize budgets, forecasting, and cost allocation while delivering on business needs in the area of ownership• Provide strategic thinking and leadership related to a wide range of applications and systems, or software-development methodologies• Benchmark and drive engineering productivity, quality, and technology policy compliance in the areas of ownership• Champion engineering standard methodologies and techniques throughout the engineering organization.• Encouraging innovation, implementation of innovative technologies, inclusion, outside-of-the-box thinking, collaboration, self-organization, and diversity.Experiences• Proven experience leading software development teams in a geographically distributed and/or remote work environment;• Track record demonstrating the ability to build a diverse and strong team - attracting, hiring, retaining, motivating the best talent;• Consistent track record delivering complex projects in an Agile development environment;• Has skills to document and coach team on the development practices and coding guidelines (e.g., branching, peer reviews, library use, logging, scanning rules, test-driven development, error handling);• Experience in building complex, highly scalable, performant, secure and reliable software systems;• Proficiency in building highly scalable, highly available full-stack Java applications using modern Java EE frameworks (Spring Boot/Spring Cloud/Spring IO etc.) ;• Experience in Cloud-native design, principles, and best practices;• Experience with modern architectures and practices including microservices, cloud computing, micro frontends, and domain driven design;• Deep understanding of Engineering Excellence Principles such as unit testing, test-driven development (TDD), Continuous Integration (CI), Continuous Delivery (CD), Pair Programming, and Automated Testing;• Has skills to undertake a technical review of code across applications and their dependencies to look for anti-patterns and promote continuous refactoring;• Understands and elaborates technical debt and operational issues to drive prioritization discussions with stakeholders to improve the run experience;• Experience with microservice design pattern, specifically Twelve-Factor is a plus;• Solid understanding of HTML5, JS frameworks like Angular, React and CSS is a plusEducation• MS degree or foreign equivalent in computer science, engineering, or related fieldIn the US, Mastercard is an inclusive Equal Employment Opportunity employer that considers applicants without regard to gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, disabled or veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
