The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As a Laboratory Technician at 3M Blacktown NSW (Western Sydney) manufacturing site, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, your scope of work include:
With limited direction, independently prioritize, schedule, and conduct tests and experiment
Operate specialized equipment with responsibility for the daily lab operations.
Obtain and prepare lab test samples for testing.
Interpret, evaluates, coordinates and communicates process sampling and testing results as required by ISO/GDP standards
Perform assigned tests, inspections, and other tasks to determine specific characteristics in-process and final product samples using established procedures as required to ensure product quality.
Perform necessary documentation on test data and observations.
Evaluate, interpret and communicate experimental results to appropriate staff by writing clear and accurate summaries and reports.
Draw conclusions and make recommendations on test results.
Maintain test results and records
Maintain testing equipment, consumables and facilities and troubleshooting on lab equipment.
Assist to develop, maintain and improve test methods / operation procedures.
Complete special requests from engineers, group leaders and/or supervisor.
Participate as a team member on problem solving teams.
Perform QC (Quality Control) measurements with corresponding disposition
Assist in identifying quality related issues
The job also requires performing other duties as assigned. Percentages of time spent on job duties are estimates and may vary for each position.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
Diploma or higher in Chemistry or equivalent
Five (5) to Ten (10) year experience in running a lab and/or manufacturing/ quality role.
Strong mechanical aptitude and problem solving / analysis skills to operate and troubleshoot equipment as well as improve processes
Experience in quality control procedures, testing and reporting
Strong attention to detail and protocols
You are a team player, but you can also work independently.
Solid written and oral communication skills
Strong work ethic and the ability to multi-task and prioritize
willingness to learn and utilize new skills and technologies to complete assigned tasks
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry or equivalent with over 10 years’ experience for running a lab in Biopharma manufacturing environment
Lab experience utilizing various testing methods including viscometry, Inductively Coupled Plasma - Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP OES), UV-VIS spectrophotometer, Endotoxin testing using Limulus Amebocyte Lysate (LAL) , Near Infra-red (NIR) , Total Nitrogen / Total Organic Compounds – (TN/TOC). Raman Spectroscopy
