Origination Field Representative/Agronomist – New Plymouth, ID area

This person must live within 50 miles of New Plymouth, ID.

Position Summary:

ADM is seeking to hire an experienced origination and agronomy Field Representative to drive growth in ADM’s dry bean business. Our small team of Field Representatives play a critical role in our dry bean seed supply chain by ensuring ADM is partnering with growers to produce the highest quality, most consistent dry bean seed for the ADM Seedwest brand, as well as commercial dry bean production for the food ingredient market. Our selected candidate will be a highly motivated relationship builder who is able to successfully transition our annual supply chain needs into targeted grower production within the region.

Strong preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate professionalism and a successful sales-oriented skill set. The perfect candidate for our team will have a desire for longevity in our edible bean program, a love for working outdoors in an agricultural-based setting during our growing season, a high-degree of emotional intelligence that results in strong team and grower relationships, and an ongoing willingness to learn about our business and contribute to the growth of our team and program.

Under the direction of the Director of Seed Origination, the successful applicant will have the following minimum responsibilities:

  • You will build and maintain a right-sized grower base in our Southwestern ID and Eastern OR production area, guided by our program’s origination and quality goals

  • You will provide crop production assistance to growers from contracting through harvest, with your knowledge of crop rotation, planting, irrigation, chemical applications, and harvest activities

  • You will research and actively seek information when needed to assist your growers in delivering the highest quality bean seed

  • You will listen to growers and synthesize back to management the critical information they provide to help our program be a top-notch business partner

  • You will manage the inventory and delivery of seedstock to our growers (physical work required)

  • You will work with our growers and management team to ensure dry bean crops within your territory meet Idaho State Department of Agriculture and Idaho Crop Improvement agency specifications

  • You will act as the liaison between ADM Edible Bean Specialties and our growers, developing and maintaining highly accountable, ethical relationships that ensure our growers trust us and rank us among their most valuable business partnerships

  • You will provide all-season, timely grower support that includes organizing events/meetings, making regular on-farm visits, asking for additional business to meet supply chain goals, and providing agronomic knowledge during the growing season

  • You will be a helpful, respectful teammate for our facilities managers and staff during our seasonal receiving, milling and treating operations

Required Skills & Experience:

  • B.S. degree in Agronomy, Crop or Soil Science, Agriculture, or Agribusiness is preferred, but not limited to these degree areas

  • 3-10 years of experience as an originator, agronomist or in agricultural sales

  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to influence stakeholders to achieve program objectives

  • Comfort in asking for business and using features-to-benefits sales techniques

  • Naturally optimistic with a helpful attitude

  • Innovative & owner’s mindset which captures the entrepreneurial can-do spirit

  • Background which exhibits both a business development and technical understanding of origination and plant science

  • Exceptional networking capabilities and a strong desire to exceed expectations, works with a sense of urgency

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers

  • Ability to cultivate and maintain positive working relationships with people at all levels inside and outside of the organization

  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and maintain flexibility to adjust to achieve organizational goals in a fast-paced environment

  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office required, with emphasis in excel and PPT

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds

  • Must be able to stand for periods longer than two hours

  • This position will require extended periods of driving, lifting seeds bags, and working in edible bean production fields.

Additional information:

  • Some overnight travel is required with this position.
