Duties: The State University of New York New Paltz (SUNY New Paltz) is seeking a highly motivated and creative individual to join the University’s Office of Communication & Marketing (OCM) Team as a Marketing Manager to increase the profile and effectiveness of The Science of Reading Center at SUNY New Paltz. This 2-year full-time position would work closely with the Center’s Executive Director and the Executive Director of Communication to increase enrollments in the Center’s microcredentials through proactive and effective marketing and communication strategies.

Duties of this role include but are not limited to:

• Develop and implement comprehensive marketing and advertising strategies targeting the campus community and educators in Maryland, New York and other target states; utilizing various strategies such as top-of-the funnel awareness marketing, content marketing, community building, story-telling, demand generation and lead generation, social media, email (direct) marketing, Search Engine Optimization, website, printed collateral, podcasts, and radio.• Partner with the Center’s Executive Director and the Center’s Fellows on live and virtual professional learning and PR events to promote the Science of Reading both locally, regionally, and nationally.• Develop communication channels for audiences and stakeholders in Science of Reading: teachers, educators, parents and policy-makers to promote the Center, its resources, research base and findings, programming, including microcredentials, Spring Symposium, webinars, white papers, events and other educational programming.• Monitor and analyze internal marketing data and analytics to assess and report on the effectiveness of campaigns and make data-driven decisions regarding allocation of resources, audience engagement and development.• Proactively build and maintain relationships with local, state and national K-12 journalists and media outlets to maximize exposure for the Center, working closely with the University Spokesperson/Executive Director of Communication to coordinate efforts.• With Communication & Marketing colleagues, ensure the Center’s design, print, web, digital marketing, advertising and media relations content aligns with the Science of Reading Center’s and University’s brand standards and utilizes the University’s design, content publishing tools, and identity, video and editorial style guides.• With Communication & Marketing colleagues, create awareness as well as demand and leads for the Center’s brand, online presence, and offerings, including the website, social media accounts, and email/online newsletter.• Ensure the Science of Reading Center brand is integrated with the University-wide brand and that both brands serve to burnish the other through this work.

Qualifications: Required:• Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or at least five (5) years relevant experience in lieu of degree• Two years or more of experience in best-in-class marketing, communications, content marketing, or a related field and knowledge of marketing and strategic communication best practices• Outstanding written, oral, and visual communication skills• Strong collaboration skills, organization skills, attention to detail, accuracy and ability to meet deadlines• Experience with digital marketing tools and social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, X and other platforms as needed• An analytic approach and a desire to make informed decisions based on data• Computer-literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Cloud Suite

Preferred:• Passion for the mission of the Center, commitment to literacy education and respect for integrated marketing communication principles.• Experience using a content management system to develop and maintain websites.• Marketing and advertising experience, including creating online and print ads, placing ads and/or negotiating with ad reps.• Experience using an e-mail marketing platform to build, send and assess promotional communications.• Experience with digital content creation including video, audio and photography.
