LSU Health New Orleans Campus Police Department is seeking motivated applicants for the position of Guard.

Starting rate of pay is dependent upon applicants’ qualifications. We also offer $2.50 Shift Differential pay and up to $2 Longevity pay per hours worked only.

The incumbent in this position performs various duties to assist University Police in maintaining security of the buildings, parking lots, garages, and surrounding areas of the LSU Health – New Orleans campus.

Duties and Responsibilities are but not limited too:

  • Patrols an assigned area. Checks security of buildings and grounds.

  • Monitors alarm panels and cameras for disturbances

  • Receives and transmits messages over two way radio

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

No experience or training is required.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must have attained eighteenth birthday at time of appointment.

May be required to possess a valid Louisiana driver's license at time of appointment.

An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

To maintain security of facilities and grounds of state institutions by preventing crime and vandalism; or, to maintain traffic and parking control and enforcement of traffic and parking regulations.

Examples of Work

GENERAL GUARD DUTIES:

Guards highly valuable property, such as public locks, state hospitals, schools, grounds, etc.

Patrols an assigned area.

Checks security of buildings and grounds.

Checks persons on public wharfs or docks to determine if they possess proper identification and permits.

Checks identification of persons who enter facilities or grounds.

Monitors alarm boards for signs of disturbances.

Conducts preliminary investigations relevant to disturbances within an assigned area.

Interviews disturbances in order to restore peace.

TRAFFIC GUARD DUTIES:

Directs traffic at state office building complexes.

Dispatches tow trucks to remove illegally parked vehicles.

Supervises students and temporary employees as required.

Issues traffic citations and parking violations.

Responds to various emergencies and problems that impact on traffic control.

Erects barricades, temporary signs, and ribbons for parking and traffic control.

Moves barricades and signs.

Makes an inventory of vehicles prior to impoundment.

Impounds vehicles and releases vehicles from impoundment including completion of auditable forms and accounting for monies collected.

Performs parking and traffic surveys.

Uses computer for status checks on vehicles and individuals to confirm impoundment status.

Performs simple maintenance to departmental equipment including vehicles, electronic access gates, and cash machines.

Provides explanation of complex and unique traffic and parking regulations.

Serves as informational source to public for agency activities such as athletic events, conferences, performances, etc..
