Major purpose:

  • Performs repair and replacement of Powerplant systems components and accessories. All work is performed in accordance with applicable manufacturer maintenance manuals, Company directives and other approved data. May be required to handle hazardous materials in performance of assigned duties.

  • A good working knowledge of assigned aircraft maintenance and parts manual.

  • Familiarization with OPNAV 4790.2 Series and other applicable Navy Instructions, Manufacturer Manuals and Company Instructions.

  • Knowledge of materials used and safety precautions as applicable to usage.

  • Must have valid state operator’s license and be able to pass the Government licensing requirements.

  • Must be able to read, speak, write legibly and understand the English language.

  • Must be customer oriented.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Physical Effort: Climbing, standing, stooping, bending, pushing, kneeling, stretching, extensive walking and working in tiring uncomfortable positions. May require lifting of objects whose weight normally will not exceed 50 pounds. Special vision abilities required to perform this job are close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.The diversity of work conditions may range from an environment where there is little or no physical discomfort, to an environment where inclement weather may subject individual to severe changes of temperature, wind, rain, etc. May be required to work in areas where high noise hazards prevail. May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles. May be exposed to electrical shock hazards. May work near moving mechanical parts.

Technical/Functional Skills:

  • Maintain assigned aircraft engines in accordance with Navy, Manufacturer and Company Instructions.

  • Use provided test equipment and Ground Support Equipment to perform assigned tasks.

  • Read, interpret, and apply instructions from Blueprints, schematics and other approved data.

  • Assist with ordering parts, tools, materials and equipment as required.

  • Document work accomplished on Maintenance Action Forms (MAF) or GLD/WECMS System.

  • Maintain cleanliness of the work center and around your assigned work area.

  • Responsible for adhering to all applicable Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention rules and regulations.

  • Responsible for adhering to Company Tool Control Program.

  • Must comply with established General and Industrial Safety Rules and Regulations as applicable to the contract, facilities and job assignment.

  • Ensure proper operation and use of special test equipment and Ground Support Equipment.

  • Maintain appropriate records of all work accomplished.

  • May be required to perform simple computer input functions.

  • May be required to perform off-site service on assigned detachments.

TRAINING

  • Every 45 days requires minimum of one (1) aircraft engine turn.

  • Aircraft systems review annually during quarterly safety stand downs.

  • Annual NATOPS open/closed book examinations (ground related procedures/emergencies).

  • Observe two, then successfully conduct two Pre-flight/Post-flight Inspections with a military FCF pilot in accordance with the NATOPS Flight Manual for the T-45 Aircraft.

  • Observe two (2), then successfully conduct two (2) Engine Turn-ups with a military FCF pilot using all appropriate checklists in accordance with the NATOPS Flight Manual for the T-45 Aircraft.

  • Observe three (3), then successfully conduct three (3) engine wash/rinses with military FCF pilot using all appropriate checklists and pre-flight procedures in accordance with NATOPS Flight Manual for the T-45 Aircraft.

  • Perform corrosion control cleaning and removal as required utilizing appropriate safety precautions.

  • May be required to remove and/or install access doors, panels and cowlings to perform the duties of the job classification.

  • Assist when directed to ensure safety, security and preservation of Government owned and Company owned equipment.

  • Perform other reasonably related incidental duties when directed within the job classification.

Education/Experience/Licenses:

  • Formal or Specialized Training/Equivalent

  • Hazardous Waste Communication Training

  • FOD and TCP Awareness Trained

  • Security Clearance Awareness Training

  • OPNAV INST 4790.2 Program Awareness

  • ISO 9001-2000 Program Awareness

  • Government On Line Data (GOLD) System Trained

  • Valid State Drivers License

  • Fuel Surveillance Trained

  • ESD Awareness Trained

  • Ground Support Equipment License Certified

  • FAA Airframes and Power Plants License (A&P)* (desired)

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

  • Powerplant Mechanics shall have three (3) years within the last six years practical experience in the specialty of Powerplant Mechanic.

  • Powerplant Mechanics shall be qualified according to their field of Powerplant Maintenance and the level of maintenance assigned, i.e., “O” Level or “I” Level. Experience shall include maintenance, repair, alignment, calibration, operation, and functional test of engines and engine-related equipment.

  • Powerplant Mechanics shall be capable of using ground support equipment relevant to this specialty; be familiar with the applicable aircraft, engines and have experience with military aircraft maintenance procedures and directives.

  • The Powerplant Mechanic shall be low and high power qualified for applicable engines.

  • Must be able to meet any Government/company licensing/qualification requirements for the position.

  • Must be able to obtain the level of security clearance required by the Government.
