POSITION SUMMARY:Performs a wide range of routine to complex medical laboratory tests, procedures and analyses to provide data for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease. Must have knowledge of acceptable medical laboratory testing theory and techniques and the ability to apply them. Knowledge of laboratory standards set forth by CAP, JCAHO, CLIA, CMA, OSHA, AABB and CLSI are required. POSITION DUTIES: Performs laboratory testing in one or more sections of the laboratory which assists in the diagnosis of patients.The tasks and responsibilities include: · Processes specimens, prepares reagents, performs routine and specialized testing procedures, reports and interprets test results. Performs quality control testing, evaluates test performance and results, calibrates, maintains and monitors equipment used in analytical performance. Performs instrument maintenance and troubleshooting. Performs corrective action to resolve issues and completely documents all actions and data. Demonstrates the ability to work independently and to handle multiple tasks within defined turnaround times. Verifies analytic accuracy, precision, sensitivity and reference ranges for test methods. Maintains competency on all procedures delegated to perform. Adheres to regulatory compliance standards and participates in Performance Improvement Projects. Notifies supervisors of problems, errors and unusual occurrences and documents these on QA form. Follows safety and infection control policies and procedures and notifies supervisor if safety hazards are noted. Communicates instrument or testing concerns to the Lead Medical Technologist or Lab Supervisor. JOB SPECIFICATIONS: Education: Required: Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, Clinical Labortary Sciences, Biology, or other related field—as evidenced by current Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners license as a CLS – Generalist or CLS – Specialist. Experience: Required: None Preferred: 1-3 years in a clinical laboratory setting License/Certification: Must be licensed by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners as a CLS - Generalist or as a CLS – Specialist. Skills: Professional knowledge of concepts, principles, practices and methodology of routine and complex analysis in designated laboratory specialty. Good organizational skills. Ability to multitask and prioritize. Good customer relations and communication skills. Physical Demands: Medium physical requirements: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
