Job Description

General Scope of Duties

Serve as a member of the Connecticut College Fund team as a frontline fundraiser and volunteer manager. The Assistant Director of Annual Giving is responsible for developing and executing campaigns to increase annual giving revenue and alumni participation through a multi-channel marketing approach. Within the Advancement Division, this position will develop and refine recent alumni strategy and outreach (independently and in cooperation with other team members). Raise annual fund gifts from constituents through the direct cultivation and solicitation of a select portfolio of prospects and donors. Manage class volunteers and oversee class-giving efforts in an effort to increase annual unrestricted giving from alumni

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate a variety of fundraising activities and programs to promote annual giving to the Connecticut College Fund. Responsible for class and volunteer management for a variety of alumni classes with a focus on building sustainable and leadership giving among recent alumni.

  • Produce a yearly strategy for assigned classes, recruit volunteers, set goals and develop and implement a plan to meet fundraising objectives. Provide updates to volunteers on the fundraising activity of classes and progress to goals.

  • Responsible for the creation and segmentation of direct mail and email appeals for class specific messages. Duties include, but are not limited to, identifying message, tone, audience, writing copy, conceptualizing design and layout, working with vendors, and analyzing KPIs. Ensure that all communications are appropriately proofread, contain consistent messages and are motivating for potential donors.

  • Steward donors and volunteers for their gifts and service to the College.

  • Manage event-based fundraising activities focused on increasing donor participation.

  • Serve as a power user in the GiveCampus Volunteer Management platform.

  • Manage a recurring gift program to increase sustained donor behavior.

  • Focus on data and analytics of giving behavior to customize messages.

  • Develop and maintain personal contact with assigned prospects through fieldwork, phone, email and direct mail to develop interest in and support of the CC Fund. Responsible for the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of 200 identified giving and volunteer prospects. Expectations of 100 in-person and virtual donor meetings per year.

    Education and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree and 1-3 years of relevant work experience required

  • Proven track record of securing Annual Fund gifts, preferably in a campaign

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • High integrity and good decision-making needed to handle confidential information

  • Ability to motivate colleagues and volunteers and to work with all staff within College Advancement

  • Ability to build and sustain key relationships with potential donors, management, faculty and staff

  • Strong computer and database skills, including CRM management and mass email

  • Excellent organization skills and ability to set priorities and keep to deadlines

  • Travel required to meet obligations of the position
