Weld various materials including stainless steel (multiple types of stainless steel), carbon steel and alloys, ensuring high-quality welds that meet specifications. Fabrication and Assembly: Fabricate and assemble larger metal structures, components, and equipment according to engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications. Use advanced fabrication techniques such as cutting, bending, and forming metals to precise measurements and tolerances. Quality Assurance: Inspect and test welded joints and fabricated components to ensure they meet ASME standards and project requirements. Perform non-destructive testing (NDT) such as ultrasonic testing (UT) and radiographic testing (RT) as required. Project Coordination: Work closely with engineers, project managers, and other team members to plan and execute welding and fabrication projects. Participate in project meetings, provide technical expertise, and contribute to project planning and scheduling. Safety and Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe work environment. Prepare reports and documentation as required by supervisors, quality control, and regulatory agencies. Required Skills and Qualifications: Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a formal welding apprenticeship program or technical training in welding and fabrication is typically required. Experience: Extensive experience as a welder-fabricator, with a focus on advanced welding techniques and fabrication methods. Experience working on ASME-certified projects is highly desirable. Skills: Proficiency in ASME welding codes and standards, including ASME Section IX for welding qualifications. Advanced knowledge of welding processes such as TIG, MIG, stick welding, and oxy-acetylene cutting. Ability to interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications accurately. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues related to welding and fabrication. Certifications: Certification in ASME welding procedures and qualifications (e.g., ASME Section IX certification) is often required. Additional certifications in NDT methods (e.g., AWS CWI, NDT Level II) may be beneficial. Physical Demands: Ability to lift heavy objects, work in various positions (standing, kneeling, bending), and withstand environmental conditions typical of welding and fabrication environments. Working Conditions: Ability to lift heavy objects, work in various positions (standing, kneeling, bending), and withstand environmental conditions typical of welding and fabrication environments. Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits. Examine workpieces for defects and measure workpieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications. Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions. Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors. Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.
