Leviton Manufacturing Extrusion Operator in New Holland, Pennsylvania
The Extrusion Operator I is responsible for operating cable extrusion equipment including pay-off, take-up, and any other piece of equipment necessary to manufacture the required quality product for the operation required in the assigned extrusion area.
Learn and maintain proficiency in operating extrusion equipment and auxiliary equipment for manufacturing a product that conforms to the design, process, and quality requirements.
Read, understand and follow all instructions on the shop paperwork, process sheets, and standard work instructions, which are necessary to operate the equipment safely and manufacture the product to the required specifications.
Safely use and clean all required hand tools necessary to set-up, take apart, and to operate the extrusion equipment.
Perform all required quality control checks and inspections to assure the product being manufactured is meeting all required specifications. This may include: micrometers, OTDR, gauge block, microscope, and any other equipment necessary to meet and assure compliance.
Complete and maintain all required paperwork and quality records with accuracy and attention to detail.
Identify non-conforming product and follow the documented procedures to identify the product as non-conforming. Transfer the non-conforming product to the proper location for rework.
Adhere to the schedule for flow of work through the work center.
Perform monthly operator preventive maintenance at the work center in accordance to documented procedures.
Follow all Safety requirements, protocols, and evacuation procedures.
Maintain 5 S standards and participate in continual improvement activities.
Education & Experience
High School diploma required
Minimum three months related experience
Skills & Abilities
Understanding of basic math skills – adding, subtracting and measuring
Basic computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written format
Ability to multi-task
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Ability to use judgement related to identifying potential safety hazards
Ability to communicate and interact with support personnel from outside departments to resolve material availability issues
Ability to demonstrate flexibility
This position requires 20% clerical and planning and 80% material handling, production assembly machine operations, and/or walking and assisting production employees
Work is primarily performed on the manufacturing floor where noise levels may be moderate or high and hearing protection may have to be worn
Eye and foot protection may have to be worn
There is potential for lifting weights up to 45 lbs.
There is potential exposure to extreme temperatures
The occasional physical demands of the position include climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping, and eye/hand/foot coordination
May stand or sit for prolonged periods of time
D Shift: 7:00 pm - 7:00 am
