Indium Corporation Application Development Engineer, ESM in New Hartford, New York

JOB SUMMARY: The Application Development Engineer, for Engineered Solder Materials (ESM), generates test strategies, data sets, and usage guidelines for the ESM product line. This role aims to enable critical pursuits in a designated market by developing process recommendations and optimal product selection for a successful customer experience. In addition, this person will serve as a subject matter expert to Sales, Research & Development (R&D), Operations, and Quality for the designated market, bringing rich contextual information on customer use case scenarios to augment product development, qualification, and introduction efforts.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (COMPETENCIES):

• Works directly with customers and/or collaborates with the Sales/Marketing/Tech team to acquire a deep understanding of the process, material, and performance requirements for customers in the designated market/application space

• Takes direction from the Senior Application Development Engineer to develop and maintain test vehicles used to simulate customer use cases for new material qualification, process development, and troubleshooting

• Utilize knowledge of soldering, assembly techniques and equipment technology, in addition to material properties (such as thermal conductivity/resistance) and heat transfer principles, to guide testing and development

• Utilize knowledge of failure analysis techniques and equipment technology, including but not limited to X-ray inspection, CSAM inspection, surface analytics, and mechanical strength

• Captures, interprets, and shares new product performance data to provide product performance and recommendations for new and existing sales opportunities

• Contributes to a library of application case studies to serve as a resource for internal training and new customer pursuits • Provides product and process training to colleagues within the organization to transfer knowledge on application developments and best practices

• Regularly participates in knowledge-sharing meetings with the Global Technical Support Engineering Team

• Liaise with quality and Manufacturing teams to serve as a subject matter expert on customer success criteria to guide manufacturing process improvements and investigations

• Engage with Product Management, R&D, and Manufacturing Engineering teams to guide qualification efforts for new product concepts and scale-up

• May require international and domestic travel to Indium Corporation accounts for technology gathering and exchange, material evaluations, and to provide product or process guidance

• Performs other duties and special projects as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor of Science in material science, metallurgy, mechanical engineering, or related technical discipline preferred; an associate degree in a related field with extensive experience may be considered

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in the electronics industry with a focus on materials, equipment, and processes is preferred

• Knowledge of pertinent test methods and standards as they relate to soldering materials characterization and performance

• Strong technical curiosity, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills

• Ability to work independently with little direction as well as collaborate effectively in a cross-functional environment

• Documented training and proven experience using statistical analysis techniques and software

• Direct customer contact experience preferred • Strong organizational skills and the ability to track and report findings

• Good oral and written communication skills; English proficiency

• SMTA-Certified Process Engineer is a plus

• Ability to travel with limited notice

• Provide own source of transportation for any local/day travel, including travel between Indium Corporation facilities

WAGE DISCLOSURE:

The salary range indicated in this posting represents the minimum and maximum of the range for the position. The actual range will vary based upon factors including, but not limited to, prior experience, knowledge, skill and education as they relate to the position’s qualifications, and internal equity.

The posted salary range reflects just one component of our total rewards package. Other components include health, dental, and vision insurance, PTO, retirement plan, volunteer opportunities, paid holidays, overtime opportunities, and many more.
