Posting Summary
UCHC is seeking a Per-Diem a Staff Nurse (RN) for the Northern State Prison in Newark, New Jersey. The Staff Nurse utilizes the nursing process to meet a variety of health care needs with ambulatory care as a primary focus. Works with a variety of health care professionals and security officers in a correctional environment. Frequently functions guided by nursing protocols. Functions as a team leader as assigned. Demonstrates competency in assessment and identification of the physical health of adults (18 to 64 years), and geriatrics (65+) all population groups and their personal strengths. Identifies inmate-centered goals and nursing objectives and implements prescribed interventions and solutions for the identified problems.
  • Provides direct and indirect nursing care to meet physiological, psychosocial and emotional needs of the inmate-patient including adults (18 to 64 years), and geriatrics (65+) and their family within the framework established by the correctional system.
  • Utilizes effective communication skills by demonstrating respect, concern and courtesy in all interpersonal relationships.
  • Uses current knowledge to promote a safe environment for providing health care to inmate-patients.
  • Maintains current professional skills and continues professional growth to enhance the practice of correctional nursing and the image of the organization.
  • Adhere to personnel policies to enhance the operation of the health care unit.
  • Maintains required annual licensure and credentialing requirements for the nursing personnel of the health care unit and assumes responsibility for his/her continuing education and professional development and contributes to the professional growth of co-workers.
  • Understands and adheres to Rutgers compliance standards as they appear in RBHS' Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
  • Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Rutgers' regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing

Certifications/Licenses
  • CPR Certification.
  • License to practice in the State of New Jersey.



Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Computer literacy.

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) or its equivalent preferred. Minimum of one (1) year of correctional nursing experience preferred.
Equipment Utilized
Physical Demands and Work Environment
As a first responder must have the physical capacity to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes. Physically able to lift and carry upstairs an emergency treatment bag that can weigh up to 45 pounds and assist in lifting and rotating patients who are unable to ambulate (up to 50 pounds).
Special Conditions
Must be approved by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and adhere to all DOC requirements.
