Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Staff Nurse for the department of Pediatrics at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.In accordance with professional nursing standards, skillfully administers total patient care based on the individualized needs of assigned patients and families. Functions in the role of full-time registered nurse at RWJMS. Attend Rheumatology clinics working in a collegial environment with physicians and staff. Follows up on test results, calls patients/parents and documents labs and medication flow sheet. Involved in data collection, entry and research. Responsible for the development of health services outreach in the community and area hospitals to improve health care access.Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Refers patients appropriately.
  • Develops and implements a plan of care in collaboration with physicians.
  • Teaching of common medications used in pediatric rheumatology including immunosuppressive and chemotherapeutic agents in collaboration with physicians.
  • Review of plan and instruction handout in clinic /and if patient calls.
  • Review of teaching handout. Discuss with parents in collaboration with physicians and set up steroid injections, infusions and admissions.
  • Writing out letters for school, accommodation letters for college, completing forms for disability and family leave.
  • Call lab for specific missing blood tests.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a license to practice in the State of New Jersey.
Certifications/Licenses
  • Certified as a Registered Nurse with a specialization in pediatric health nursing, rheumatology preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • The RN should have knowledge and experience of care of immunosuppressed patients and chemotherapeutic medications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1-2 years of nursing experience in Pediatrics.
  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish).
  • Computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office.
  • At least six (6) months experience in a subspecialty involving care of children with chronic diseases.

  • Physical Demands: Standing, sitting, walking, talking or hearing. Typing on computer. No special vision requirements.
