The Position

Social Services Program Specialists perform administrative and professional work in conjunction with the administration of statewide public assistance, medical assistance, or social services programs.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.

The Division of Welfare and Supportive Services (DWSS) is recruiting for a Social Services Program Specialist II position in the Carson City Administrative Office in Carson City. The Employment and Supportive Services (ESS) unit is responsible for the administration of the TANF Employment and Training Program (NEON), the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Employment and Training Program (SNAPET), and Energy Assistance Program (EAP). Under the direction of the Social Services Chief, the incumbent will support the SSPS III staff in the unit with NEON, SNAPET, and/or EAP activities related to research and analysis of statute, regulation and policy; drafting correspondence and policy documents; preparing and maintaining program and federal reports; managing contracts; preparing training materials and presentations; providing field staff policy and system support; resolving vendor and vendor payment issues. We are looking for excellent verbal and written communication skills when interacting with co-workers, community partners, and stakeholders; ability to apply critical thinking skills by researching, analyzing and interpreting state and federal regulations; ability to self-motivate; and maintain high standards of professional integrity and confidentiality. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field of study pertinent to the program assignment and one year of professional experience providing social services to clients or program development and evaluation which required the application of regulations, laws, policies and procedures in making determinations; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field of study pertinent to the program assignment and one year of professional experience providing medical assistance programs services or healthcare services to clients or program compliance and evaluation which required the application of regulations, laws, policies and procedures in making determinations; OR one year of experience as a Social Services Program Specialist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. This position requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.

Additional Position Criteria

This recruitment is only open to current classified employees in state service with at least six months of continuous, full-time equivalent service.
