The Position
Correctional Sergeants and Lieutenants have charge of an assigned watch or major area in a State correctional institution/facility and supervise subordinate officers to ensure the safe custody,discipline and welfare of inmates.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
This recruitment will fill all qualified Sergeant promotions for every institution in the Nevada Department of Corrections for the next 12 months. State Division of Human Resources per SB431 states lists will not be ranked and no more T&E questions. Application review and meeting minimum qualifications will be used in making an application eligible to appear on an unranked list for Sergeant. If claiming veteran status, you must attach a copy of your DD214 to your application. If claiming disabled veteran status, you must attach all supporting documentation from the VA stating disabled veteran status. This must be attached to your application. Make sure you update your work history with all current information. Everything must be accurate and up to date at the time you submit the application. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
One year of work experience as a Senior Correctional Officer in Nevada State service; OR three years of experience as a journey level Correctional Officer in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.Special Notes
Applicants must meet current Peace Officer Standards Training (POST-Category 3) requirements including the physical agility testing as established in the Nevada Revised Statutes and Nevada Administrative Code.Special Requirements
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety.
