The Position

Under general supervision, Aircraft Maintenance Specialists perform inspections, repair and overhaul on agency aircraft such as light or medium class rotorcraft in order to ensure the safety of passengers and equipment engaged in flight operations; and maintain and update technical data related to aircraft maintenance and applicable federal regulations.

This Division of Forestry's mission is to provide professional natural resource and wildland management services to enhance, conserve and protect forest, rangeland and watershed values, endangered plants and other native flora. The agency operates one Bell Helicopter 212S Eagle Copters conversion and two military surplus UH-1H helicopters. The incumbent will perform inspections, repair and overhaul on agency operated helicopters meeting FAA standards. All work is to ensure the safety of crew, passengers and equipment engaged in flight operations. The incumbent maintains and updates technical data related to aircraft maintenance and applicable federal regulations and performs other duties as assigned. The incumbent may be required to travel via helicopter on fire assignments throughout the State. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

Graduation from high school or equivalent education and five years of journey level experience as a Certified Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic including at least three years of experience in repairing and maintaining helicopters within the last five years.

Special Notes

Incumbents must obtain an Inspection Authorization within one year of appointment. Incumbents within the Division of Forestry must obtain a Class B commercial driver's license with air brake, hazardous materials, and tanker endorsements within one year of appointment.

Special Requirements

Incumbents must maintain current licensure and certifications as a condition of continuing employment. A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. A valid Class C driver's license is required at the time of appointment. Applicants must possess an FAA Airframe and Powerplant Rating at the time of application. Incumbents must obtain an Inspection Authorization within one year of appointment. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, all positions in this class have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this class must first submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
